Excited for Another School Year
We are so excited for another school year to get underway! We are looking forward to a great year!
Our faculty and administrators have undergone extensive training over the past couple of weeks in preparation for improving teaching and learning throughout the school district. At Bunker Hill Elementary, we are gearing up for improved attendance and improved achievement. It is difficult to accomplish our goal of increasing attendance and achievement if we do not have buy in from everyone, including parents.
Please help us this school year by making sure your student is present at school as much as possible. If we are going to close the learning gaps that widened during the pandemic, we have to have students at school on time and for the whole school day. Anytime a student misses time during a school day, they could be missing instruction that they may never truly will have the opportunity to receive again. Some students are sharp enough to catch up, but others may end up lost for good regarding the skills they missed out on learning through direct instruction.
Attendance matters. So, let's all plan to play our part in getting students to school and getting them the best education possible. We owe it to our students.
Thank you for your time and attention to these matters. Have a safe and wonderful school year!
~Mr. Baker

Parties at School
As we stated in our opening day faculty staff presentation, we are no longer able to celebrate birthdays in the same we used to, but we have provided some alternatives to how we celebrate birthdays and other special occasions. We have a statement on our website for parents to see. Please take a look at School Celebrations- Parties At School under the Welcome Toolkit on the Bunker Hill Elementary School website to see the update. In West Virginia, we are governed by West Virginia Child Nutrition Policy 4321.1. Please consult with administration if you are unclear on this policy.
School Safety
One of our emphasis at the start of the school year is School Safety. During the first two weeks of school, we will practice various emergency drills. Additionally, we will review with some students and teach others procedures for safely traveling down the hallway, conducting oneself in the cafeteria, arriving safely in the morning, and departing safely in the afternoon.
