We have now had a few weeks in virtual school, and hopefully everyone knows how to access their courses and has been completing all their assignments. Our first progress reports will be coming out TODAY via email. If we have any concerns around grades or attendance, you will be receiving a call or email from Mrs. Geter offering support. If you have specific questions about grades, please contact the teacher of the course. Go M@VS!

August 29-- Optional ASVAB testing for 10-12 graders (at Maryville High School at 8:25 AM)

October 9-- Intervention and Enrichment/ No School

October 10-- Professional Development/ No School

October 17-- ACT Retake for all Seniors (at Maryville High School)

Starting this Wednesday, be looking for an email from Maryville Virtual School. There will be an attached Progress Report that shows your student's current grade and attendance in each course. See the example below.

• Yellow- total days absent and number of unexcused absences. These are the numbers that inform the truancy process.
• Blue- courses absences. This number shows you how many days a student has not completed their work for a specific class.
• Green- Q1 % and Q1. This shows the current average in % and grade for each course for this grading period. Q1 stands for Quarter 1 or the first nine weeks of school.
• Orange- Course % and Course Grade. This shows the current average in % and grade for each course. This will become more important as the year progresses.

If you do not receive the Progress Report email by Thursday, please check the clutter folder of your email. If you still do not see it, please contact MVS to make sure we have your email address listed correctly in PowerSchool.

Each Wednesday at 11:00, you will receive a Low Grade Alert email if your student currently has a average below 60 in a class. Below is an example. Please note in the highlighted section below, your email will have the course and grade listed.

Mrs. Vagnier, Ms. Geter, and Mrs. Smith will be hosting Parent Zoom meetings for all parents of students in grades 2-8 grades. They will be starting both meetings by reviewing how you can see the work that your child needs to do for the week; then, they will have time for questions and answers. Please look for an email from Emily Smith or Melissa Vagnier directly to you for the Zoom links. Please see times below.

• Grades 2-5: 4:00 today
• Grades 6-8: 4:00 or 5:30 today

"I am senior now, so what should I be doing to apply to college or get into the workforce?"

Our Ready Graduate Advisor, Wes Lambert, will be hosting a Zoom meeting with senior students to discuss what they need to be doing now to get ready for their not-too-distant futures! The Zoom meeting for 12th graders will be on August 24th at 1:00 PM. Senior students will receive an email with the Zoom link.

MVS students in grades 10-12 have the opportunity to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) test at MHS on August 29th at 8:25. Students can choose whether or not they want their scores to be reported to the military. Participation in the ASVAB does not obligate a student to talk with a military recruiter or consider a military career. ASVAB results offer access to excellent career exploration information that can assist students in finding a career that matches their strengths. "I am the parent of a high school senior, so what should I be doing to help them apply to college or get into the workforce?"

Our Ready Graduate Advisor, Wes Lambert, will be hosting a Zoom meeting with senior parents to discuss what they need to be doing now to help their students! The Zoom meeting for parents of 12th graders will be on August 31st at 8:00 PM. Parents of seniors will receive an email with the Zoom link.

All MVS Seniors will retake the ACT test on October 17th at Maryville High School. This retake is a free, on-line test opportunity provided by the state of Tennessee. More information will be coming home soon explaining the process of enrolling for the test.

Students in grades 9-12 now have to set their own PowerSchool password. The first time your student tries to login, he will get a screen asking for their old password and asking them to choose a new password. See below. Please assure them that this is something that they need to do.

If you ever see this screen, click on Login with Microsoft Azure AD. Once you click that, it should disappear and continue on with whatever you were doing.

Do you want your own parent account in Canvas, so you can see your child's courses and assignments? Follow these directions.

If you have assignments in Edgenuity or Imagine Learning, please click on the Edgenuity Students icon in ClassLink, wait a second, and it will log in for you! To see what your assignments are for a certain day or week, click on the name of the class (see to the right). Then you will be taken to the Course Map, where you see all activities and what day they should be completed. To go to an assignment, just click on it. (See below.)

As a parent, you have three ways to keep grades at your fingertips--

1. Login to https://ps.maryvillecityschools.k12.tn.us/public/home.html

with your Parent username and password.

2. Sign up for emails of grades and attendance

• Setting Up Automatic Reminders: Emailed Notification of Grades
  • Once parent is logged in, choose Email Notification on the left.
  • Check what information you would like to receive, how often, and to what email address.
  • Click Submit and Sign Out.

3. Download the PowerSchool app and view it on your phone

• PowerSchool Mobile App
  • Install App.
  • Enter District Code: QLNK.
  • Login using the Parent username and password.
