Principal Post
A note from Mrs. Morriss....

Welcome
Oakwood Elementary School - October 2024
This month at Oakwood and across the district we will be focusing on improving attendance. Attendance has a direct link to student success. A student has to be at school to receive instruction from their teacher. We will be having an attendance challenge between grade levels to see who can have the highest percentage of attendance. The winning grade will get some fun prizes. Keep an eye out on Facebook for more information and updates.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Stephanie Eaton
Oakwood Elementary Principal

Morning Arrival
The school day starts at 8:30. Ideally, students who do not ride buses would be expected to arrive at school between 8:00 and 8:15. However, due to parents’ work schedules this may not always be practical. No student will be allowed to enter the building prior to 7:30 a.m. Please plan accordingly. All students arriving between 7:30 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. are required to report immediately to the cafeteria/gym. Students arriving after the tardy bell rings at 8:30 a.m. must report to the office before going to class. Parents dropping students off before school must not use the bus lane. If a parent needs to park and enter the school between 7:30 and 8:15, they MUST NOT park along the curb on the front driveway and leave the car unattended as this could block our school buses on the front drive. If parents need to assist a child in exiting the car or need to enter the building, they should park in the front parking lot. DO NOT drop your child off before 7:30; there is no supervision.
In the mornings, allow your child to walk to his/her classroom by themselves. Parents will not be allowed to walk your child to his/her classroom. If you would like to make an appointment to meet with the teacher, the office staff would be happy to help arrange that. This helps with safety and it also builds a sense of responsibility for your child.
After entering the building for the school day, no student will be allowed to leave the grounds before dismissal time without officially checking out in the school office. In the event that a student must leave the building during the school day for a dentist/doctor appointment, etc., the parent should send a written request with the student or call the school. The parent must then come to the office and sign the student out. Upon returning to school, the parent must accompany the student into the building and sign the student back into class. Also, please bring a doctor's excuse to accompany your student's attendance record.
Dismissal
All families are assigned a number for pickup. Do not pull into a parking space, but along the curb out front. A school employee will radio in your family number to staff inside. Students will remain in the building until their family number has been called. At that time, students will be released to walk along the sidewalk to enter your vehicle.
It is imperative that we all work together to ensure our students’ safety!
Do NOT park in the alley or on Hatch Street and ask your child to be a walker. Only send your child as a walker if he/she is truly walking home. This helps ensure that all of our students are safe.
Please, please respect our dismissal procedures. If your child is not WALKING, actually walking, please go to the front parking lot with the car riders.
Our car rider pick up line runs through very quickly. We are through the line in 8-10 minutes. You don't even have to get out of your vehicles. We bring your child to you.
Remember, your children learn from watching you. Are you following the rules to help Oakwood students be safe?
If there is any change in the usual dismissal routine for a student, the teacher is to be notified in writing before any change can be considered (verbal messages are easily confused). If nothing is on file in writing, the students will be dismissed according to their usual procedure.
