A Message from the Administrative Team
Greenwood Students and Families:
Daylight saving time will end this Sunday – do not forget to move your clocks back one hour on Saturday night.
A reminder to parents that full tuition is due at the end of the 1st semester, December 15. Please plan to meet this deadline. If there are circumstances that prevent you from meeting this deadline, please email Dr. Snodgrass so we are aware of your situation. Students are not allowed to attend the 2nd semester (starting January 16, 2024) if full tuition is not received.
Speaking of tuition, there will be a modest increase in tuition and some fees for 2024-25. More information will be forthcoming.
We will not have a formal assembly this year to commemorate Veteran’s Day, rather some recognition and observance of the day with student performances on Friday, November 10th in the morning. The schedule will be as follows:
At 8:45 on Friday, November 10th –
- Zoe Allie leads us in the pledge.
- The HS choir will sing the national anthem over the intercom.
- Students step out into the hall or open their doors (science wing will walk to the area by the ramp in the science wing)
- The band will march to the top of the ramp by the front doors, stop, and play the song the Grand Old Flag/America the Beautiful
- The band will then march back to the band room as students and teachers resume class
6-12 Families: We are bringing back a long-standing tradition at Greenwood, Thanksgiving food baskets! In partnership with Sustainable Service Society and our Student Council, we will be providing seven (7) families with Thanksgiving dinners. Students will be assigned what to bring. The class sponsors will share that with the students. This is a valuable community engagement activity. All items are due Wednesday, November 15th. Civitas Discendo!
If you are looking for something to do on Saturday, drop by the Betty and Bobby Allison Event Center at 2 pm for the Springfield American Indian Center- Missouri State University Native American Heritage Month Powwow.
Go Blue Jays!

GLS Electronic Device Practice
As a reminde, this is our Electronic Device Practice. Please discuss this with your student:
Effective January 30, 2023
The GLS electronic device practice will be in place to support the learning environment in the classroom and support our educators in the academic setting. This is a valuable teaching practice intended to reinforce the respect of our instructional time and provide consistency throughout our classrooms.
Expectations
During class, all devices must be placed in a student’s locker, backpack, or purse. Examples of devices are, but not limited to, cell phones, air pods, smart watches (may be worn, but not use in class), iPods, iPads, computers. To be clear, there are times when devices are used as a part of the instructional process. The instructor will determine when the device is used for this purpose.
Consequences
First and foremost, classroom management techniques will be used in the classroom prior to instructors taking a student device for the first time. If students continue to use the electronic device in question after redirection from the instructor, the following practice will be in place:
o First offense: Instructors will take the device and keep until the end of the class period.
o Second offense: Instructors will take the device to the office for the student to pick up at the end of the day and the offense will be documented as a second offense.
o Third offense: Instructors will take the device to the office for the parent to pick up at the end of the day and the offense will be documented as a third offense.
o Fourth offense: Student will receive discipline in accordance with the scope and sequence in the handbook for Disrespect of Authority.
o Fifth offense: Student will receive discipline in accordance with the scope and sequence in the handbook for Disrespect of Authority. Student will not be allowed to bring the electronic device for the remainder of the semester.
o Subsequent offenses incurred will be reviewed by administration and can result in enrollment probation.
Offenses will be documented and offenses will be cumulative school wide. For example, if a student phone comes to the office from Mrs. Hopkins class and then again from Dr. Snodgrass’ class, that would be the student’s third offense.

Greenwood Debate Success at Willard Tournament
The Debate Blue Jays continue to excel this year! Over 30 schools from across Missouri competed in this year’s Willard Invitational last weekend. Greenwood had 3 of the top 8 teams in Varsity Policy Debate.
Mary Gabriel and Marcus Ryan were the undefeated top seed after preliminary rounds of competition, defeating teams from Glendale, Rock Bridge, Bolivar, and Classical Christian Academy. Mary and Marcus went on to finish 3rd overall. Marcus was also a semi-finalist in United States Extemporaneous Speaking.
Greenwood also had the 2nd seed in the varsity division after preliminary rounds – and it was a team of freshmen! Abby Ryan and Laila Ozturk were also undefeated in the preliminary rounds (including wins against Glendale, Hickman, and Rock Bridge) and lost a close 2-1 decision to Glendale in the quarterfinal round. Such an amazing accomplishment for first year high school competitors! Laila was also a semi-finalist in Informative Speaking.
Gyan Grewal and Ethan Duff also advanced to the quarterfinal round of Varsity Policy debate, seeded 7th after preliminary rounds, including a key victory over Springfield Central in Round 4. Additionally, Gyan was 6th place overall out of 55 total competitors in Informative Speaking.
The team will be back in action next weekend at Republic High School. Go Blue Jays!
