Irvington Weekly Newsletter
May 19, 2023
Our fifth graders went on their overnight trip this week (Monday through Wednesday), and they had a blast! It's not every day at school when you get to see scorpions, owl pellets, and fish-eating eagles as a part of your science class. We are grateful to families to donating to the PTA so that the trip is free for ALL students, and we are lucky to have amazing teacher and parent volunteers to make the trip possible.
With gratitude,
Mr. G.
Annual Spaghetti Dinner NEXT WEEK!
You’re invited to…the Irvington Annual Spaghetti Dinner!
May 25, 5:30-7:00pm
Irvington School Cafeteria
Some of you may remember this event from years ago, and for many of us this will be a first! For several decades prior to COVID, Irvington hosted an annual Spaghetti Dinner, and we’re bringing this tradition BACK!
This event is a special chance to build community where teachers serve the food and families share a meal together in the Irvington cafeteria. Families enter through the cafeteria doors, get a green tray and go through the lunch line just like the students do every day! Arrive behind the school any time between 5:30 and 7pm.
Dinner will be catered by Amalfi. Food options include noodles served either plain, with butter and parmesan cheese, or with your choice of marinara or meat sauce. Salad and bread will also be served. Gluten free and vegan pasta with marinara from Pastini also will be available (not made in a gf kitchen).
A handful of volunteers are needed to help this event run smoothly. We need help directing people, picking up used cups and trays, serving food and cleaning up in half hour shifts between 5:30 and 7:30. Please email ptapres@irvingtonschool.com if you can help and specify which half hour you can do!
This is a free event and you and your whole family are invited! Whether or not you RSVP’d, we hope to see you there! The PTA will also gladly accept donations to help cover the cost of this event - click here to donate.

COVID Update from Nurse Cam
Hello families,
As you might have read, the COVID-19 public health emergency status ended on May 11. With that, Oregon has updated its COVID isolation guidelines. See the changes below:
- A five-day period of isolation for those infected with COVID-19 will also no longer be recommended for the general population, including people in K-12 education settings. Oregon public health officials believe widespread population immunity due to vaccination and repeated infections means most COVID-19 infections are now likely asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, and the five-day isolation period is doing little to reduce transmission. The recommendation for the general population will be to stay home until fever free for 24 hours and symptoms are improving; to avoid contact with individuals at increased risk for severe disease, including older adults and those with underlying medical conditions; and to consider masking for 10 days.
As a general reminder, please keep your child home if they show any signs of an excludable illness. Please reference this link for guidelines: When to Keep your Student Home.
If you have any questions about these changes, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Thank you!
-Nurse Cam
