As a follow up to the email that I sent to parents yesterday regarding the issues of vandalism at Bristol, I will have three guest speakers join me for a Principal Talk that will occur virtually on Monday during Statesman Time. All Statesman Time teachers will join the Zoom and show the Principal Talk on the large screen in their classrooms so their students can watch and listen to the talk. Our guests will be Dr. Bill Senti, Principal of Bristol Elementary School, Dr. Emily Burst, Assistant Principal at Bristol Elementary School, and a representative from the Webster Groves Police Department. We will talk about the importance of respecting school property at all times and what students can do to ensure they are upholding the Hixson Middle School core values of respect, teamwork, and positive relationships while out and about in the Webster Groves community. We want our school to be viewed in a positive way, and we believe that bringing this to our students' attention will help us achieve that goal.

If your student rides district provided transportation please be on the lookout for an email with possible route changes. Some of our current routes are being modified to reduce ridership on crowded buses, and cut down on ride times as we add an additional bus route. If you are on the waitlist for transportation you will be receiving an email with instructions to have your student pick up a bus pass from the office, payment information for bus services, and morning pickup and drop off details.

Wagner Portrait Group will be at school on Monday, October 3 to photograph any students who were absent on the initial picture day or any student that needs their picture retaken. If you are having a picture taken as a RETAKE, please make sure your student returns their package in its entirety, including the package insert sheet, to the photographer on retake day. Feel free to attach a note to describe what you’d like Wagner to do differently.

If your student missed picture day in August and will miss retake day on October 3, then you can go to the Wagner studio to have their picture taken. Wagner typically sets up two or three retake dates starting in late October. Please reach out to Wagner customer service around mid-October to book a studio time @ 314-567-5900.

Have you ever wanted to start your own business? Join our new club, Thrive Jr., powered by Freshinc and Mxinc curriculum. Club members will progress through the milestones of starting up a new business: they identify a problem to solve, design and pitch a product concept, and make and sell this product. The club will participate in a district-wide pitch competition in April.

Who: 6, 7, and 8th grade students (25 max per grade)

When: 3:35 pm - 4:20 pm

6th Grade: Wednesdays after school with Mr. Pitlyk

7th and 8th Grade: Thursdays after school with Ms. Fox and Mrs. Siebe

How: Register for Thrive Jr. by completing this form. Paper copies of the registration form will be available in the Main Office starting Monday, October 3, 2022.

The club will run from October 24, 2022 - April 4, 2023.

Hey Hixson Families! Don't forget to save the date for this year's Rock & Roll Bingo night. The event will be held Friday, November 11 at the Shrewsbury City Center. Doors will open at 6pm, and the Rock & Roll Bingo will start at 7pm. Be on the lookout for registration information in early October! If you would like to donate to our bingo prize collection or our silent auction, please contact Megan O'Brien at obrien.megan@wgmail.org.

We would love to have Hixson families, faculty & staff join us to celebrate learning in action at WGHS! Hopefully, this will make clear the various pathways students can follow at WGHS to pursue the hands-on learning they engaged in at Hixson. It is also a Community Open House. Finally, we will be hosting sessions about the Chelsea Center and how to get involved as well!
