May's Hippo Way Trait-Citizenship and Patriotism
Getting Involved and Helping my School, Community, and Country
The resources provided will help students learn and and be able to discuss what it means to be a good citizen. Citizenship is working together to make your community a better place to live. Students will be able to identify ways they can be good citizens in their community, home, and school.
After viewing the resources, consider the following questions:
Why do you think citizenship is important?
● We need good citizens to make our school and community a better place to live.
● It is important for us to do our part as citizens in America.
● We can work to help others out.
What do you think our school would be like if people were NOT good citizens?
● It would not be safe.
● People would be mean.
● Students would not be able to learn.
What are some ways you can show good citizenship in your community (Hutto,

● Welcome new neighbors
● Pick up trash in your community

● Vote
● Don’t litter

● Help others (people and animals)
● Obey laws (wear seat-belt)

NEW - FREE MENTAL HEALTH COUNSELING FOR TEXANS: Texas Health and Human Services has launched a 24/7 statewide mental health support line to help Texans experiencing anxiety, stress or emotional challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This new resource offers COVID-19-related mental health support for all Texans. People can call the Statewide COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week toll-free at 833-986-1919.
