Next week in ELA class, we will be reading ¨Scrooge¨ and answering the essential question, ¨Ẅhat can cause a sudden change in a personś life.” Along with the story, we will practice new vocabulary words, answer comprehension check questions and analyze the text. We will also be working with prepositions and prepositional phrases with a fun activity.
Mrs. Boyer's Reading Advancement Program
Last week, we read some different articles on the happenings in the U.S. in the 1920's. We discussed text structure and author's purpose. Next week, we will read about the history of Child Labor in the United States. The reading skills we will focus on will be identifying the main idea, proving our answers with evidence, and writing an extended response to a prompt. The students have worked so hard this semester, and I have enjoyed watching their Lexile grow! Please ask your student to show you their growth in Achieve 3000.
MATH
Accelerated 7 students will finish the Topic 4 CSA that we began on Friday. Then we will focus on writing and evaluating algebraic expressions along with generating equivlaent expressions during this week before Winter Break.
SOCIAL STUDIES
Students have done a great job this week learning about the Constitution. Next week, we will be reviewing and studying for the Constitution Test, which we will take on Friday, Dec. 16. Students who are absent will take the test after winter break.
SCIENCE
As an extension to our Matter and Energy in Ecosystems unit, students were able to examine a decomposer in the classroom (common mushroom) to see what adaptations it has to help it feed and reproduce. This lab allowed us to bring back out the microscopes which is always a good time! Next Tuesday (Dec. 13), we will have our unit test. Review materials will be posted Friday and we will be spending time in class Monday to prepare.
