WMMS Tiger Times
May 2023
Dear WMMS Families
I apologize for the delay in sending out the May newsletter. This year has flown by and I've enjoyed working with your students and meeting parents/guardians throughout the year. Thank you for your support this year being new to the district and the building.
We finished MAP testing with 6th grade last week and they did a wonderful job and put in great effort and have started 7th grade MAP testing. Next week we will have 8th grade MAP testing. We appreciate your help with making sure students get to bed at a decent time and eat a healthy breakfast either at home or here at school.
Track season has come to an end and congratulations to the athletes on their performances this year, settings PRs and breaking school records! Our middle school band concert is May 11th at 6:00 PM in the auditorium and the KHS/WMMS choir concert is May 17th at 7:00 PM. Please make plans to join us!
We are still taking registrations for summer school. The deadline for requesting transportation has unfortunately passed. Please see the summer school information below and if you need another form sent home please call the office. We look forward to seeing your students in June and welcoming our incoming 6th graders!
I look forward to celebrating our 8th graders as they continue their journey to high school. I know they will do great things in the next four years and I can't wait to see what they accomplish! Please see information below on our 8th grade celebration activities.
As always, if you need anything please do not hesitate to contact me at bvandelft@kirksville.k12.mo.us or 660-665-3793 and have a great end to the school year!
Sincerely,
Brandi VanDelft
WMMS Principal
WMMS Scholastic Book Fair!

Call 660 665 3793 with any questions.
8th Grade Families,
We are excited to invite you to our 4th annual 8th-grade Promotion Parade and new this year -Tailgate! Join us in celebrating the accomplishments of our 8th grade class and wishing them well as they start their High School career!
Promotion Parade & Tailgate: Monday, May 22nd from 6:30 - 8:30 PM (Rain or Shine) If there is rain we will move the tailgate part to the WMMS Commons.
WMMS Staff will line the parking lots east of the middle school (between KPS and WMMS) and the parking lot north of the middle school (between WMMS and KHS) to cheer our students on as they drive by.
Traffic will flow one way in from Hamilton Street traveling north between KPS and WMMS, turning west into the WMMS parking lot, and then traveling north toward KHS as a symbolic drive toward the high school and the next four years of their lives (see map below).
This year we plan to add a few features to our parade. We will attempt to announce student names as their car pulls into the parking lot north of the middle school, we will have music playing, the KHS Drumline & Flag Core, our Kirksville Tiger mascot will be here, and our PTC is creating a picture spot in the KPS parking lot so you can get a picture before the parade to commemorate the event!
You can park in front of KPS as you wait for the parade to begin. There will be a spot to take pictures here before you start the parade.
As you enter the parade route, you will be handed a name card. Please print the name(s) of the student(s) in the car and be ready to hand it to the staff member as you turn left into the north parking lot.
Continue to drive to the Spainhower Field parking lot to exit the parade and park to start the tailgate for food/drinks and games (please bring yard games!)
A few safety notes:
The parade route is open for 45 minutes to allow for spacing of cars and prevent backup on Hamilton Street. For the safety of all involved, we will ask that you stay in your vehicles and do not stop while driving through the parade route.
Please stay alert while driving slowly along the route.
Watch for people standing along the parade route.
Only vehicles driven by adults will be allowed in the parade.
Students will receive their promotion certificates at school on Wednesday, May 24 at 8:30 AM in the auditorium. Families are welcome to attend. Please park in the north or east parking lots and avoid the bus loop. Families can enter the building beginning at 8:00 AM. You will be able to take pictures during the event.
