Idea Creation - Youth Entrepreneurship
Mr. Burwitz and several of his students attended the Idea Creation - Youth Entrepreneurship Program at the GISD last week.
The Genesee Intermediate School District hosted a new event this year as part of the Youth Entrepreneurship (YE) Program. The Ideation Crash Course event was held on December 7, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Genesee Career Institute, 5081 Torrey Rd, Flint.
Five YE students from each of the 24 participating school districts had the opportunity to hear from and meet business industry experts and other like-minded students looking to generate new business ideas. Three “storm” sessions will be held to challenge the students’ imagination, creativity, innovation, and more. Students walked away with several new business concepts to pursue.
Storm Session 1: Imagination, Creativity, Innovation, and Wacky Inventions
Storm Session 2: Marketing Challenge
Storm Session 3: RevGen Challenge
Youth Entrepreneurship is a growing initiative in Genesee County designed to spark interest and encourage entrepreneurial mindsets among students. The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation awarded GISD a grant to establish YE clubs at local high schools across the county, train participating club advisors, and support the Countywide Pitch Competition, which is the highlight of the YE Program.

Positivity Project - This Week's Theme: Self -Control
This week our school community will be focusing on the character strength of Self-Control. Self-control means you can control your emotions and behaviors. You think before you act.
Self-control is the act of managing behavior in a way that positively influences goal attainment and living up to standards. Possessing this strength protects people from destabilizing emotional extremes. Those with self-control can limit impulsive behavior. They are able to experience and navigate difficulty while remaining poised. Self-control does not mean a lack of thoughts, feelings, or impulses; it just means you have command over them.
A group’s ability to demonstrate self-control often appears in the form of “self-monitoring.” This means the individuals demonstrate honesty with one another about successful group practices. When things are unsuccessful, group members can adjust roles in the interest of overall group success.
Flowers in the Georgia O'Keefe Style
Students from Mrs. Jambeck's art classes created flowers in the Georgia O'Keefe style using oil pastels. Students learned about the wonderful artist Georgia O'Keefe while also learning about how to work with oil pastels and create his/her own flowers.
They first did a close-up of a flower on a 6x6 inch paper. Next, they did an abstract piece of the same flower on a 6x12 inch piece of paper. Students mounted them on black paper when finished. These wonderful masterpieces were created in the Art Foundation classes.

AP Biology & Anatomy & Physiology Travel to Sloan Museum
Students in IB Biology and Anatomy & Physiology travel to Sloan Museum to see the Real Bodies exhibit.
REAL BODIES uses real human specimens that have been respectfully preserved to explore the complex inner workings of the human form in a refreshing and thought-provoking style. System by system, the exhibition provides an approachable and fascinating insight into what's happening inside every one of us.
This powerful exhibition explores life by displaying real, perfectly preserved human bodies and more than 200 anatomical specimens. More than a simple display of human specimens, REAL BODIES will connect audiences to a deeper sense of what it means to be alive. Founded on anatomical, cultural, and emotional narratives, the exhibition transforms the way we view the mysterious organism we all share - the human body - and reminds us of all the complexity and magic within us that we often take for granted. REAL BODIES digs deeper into the beauty of the body, mind, and soul than any other exhibition of its kind, and invites you to explore the entire human experience from the first breath to the last.
