Dear Page Hilltop Families:

Our Family Picnic & Open House was an amazing first family/school event of the year! It was so great to be back together - "live". The positive energy and excitement could be felt everywhere. We look forward to many more exciting events happening throughout the year.

Next up is our first PTO meeting on Thursday & 7:00 pm. We have lots of exciting news to share with all of our parents & families. We will have translators available for those who need assistance. Our guest speakers will be school adjustment counselors Evelyn Cubero & Tracy Hebenton. All of the children will be entertained by our friends from Animal Adventures. And, of course, there will be raffle prizes! Please join us!

The “What I Need Now” block at Page Hilltop, commonly referred to as the WINN block, is used to provide ALL students with additional learning opportunities at their instructional level. The WINN groups are led by classroom teachers, reading specialists and other support staff. The groupings for WINN are fluid and are formed based on current data collected by teachers. During WINN block, your child may go to another classroom and work with a teacher different than their homeroom. WINN block allows struggling students to receive additional support, while also providing enrichment or extension activities for students performing on or above grade level.

Students worked with Mrs. Perwak to harvest some beans and Swiss chard from our courtyard garden. Students shared their harvest with teachers to take home and enjoy. Thank you Mrs. Perwak!

We have so so many wonderful students at Page Hilltop! As principal of PH, I can not be prouder of our students. They are amazing! We have numerous ways to recognize student achievement as individuals, in homeroom classes, or in entire grade levels. A new program this year is the "Student-of-the-Month" program. Teachers (homeroom & unified arts) have the most difficult task of selecting one student each month who continually stands out as someone who consistently demonstrates our school core values of BE KIND, BE SAFE, BE READY TO LEARN.

Our September SOM recipients were recognized at mini-assemblies yesterday and received enthusiastic applause from their classmates and teachers. They were presented with special t-shirts to wear proudly. CONGRATULATIONS to the following students:

As part of our after-school enrichment programs, we would like to consider offering a "Cooking Class" for students. This would be held after school one afternoon per week. We would like to teach students how to make some simple healthy foods/snacks ( none that would involve using a stove). If you might be interested in this activity and would like to discuss it further, please contact Mr. Deppe.

During these challenging times, we know that some of our families may be struggling with food insecurity. If you are one of those families, we are here to offer some help:

• We encourage you to reach out to the "Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry". This is a wonderful organization that has helped many families over the years. You may contact them at: https://loavesfishespantry.org
• Our school also has a "Weekend Snack Pack Program". Students involved in this program receive a bag of snack foods each Friday to bring home for the weekend. None of the snacks require the use of a stove, microwave, or fridge.

Applications for this program went home last week via Blackboard. Please complete the online enrollment in the Weekend Snack Pack Program by clicking HERE.

This program will continue throughout the school year and participation is confidential.

During our recent Open House, students had the opportunity to receive a raffle ticket from either Mr. Lutinski or Mr. Deppe. Listed below are the winning numbers that were randomly drawn. If you are the holder of any of these lucky winning tickets, bring your ticket to Mr. Deppe and you will receive your choice of prizes: a Page Hilltop t-shirt or a coupon to the school store.

As you know, our school has a PAWS ticket program for recognizing students who are doing a variety of kind & respectful deeds. We collect copies of all PAWS tickets in the office and, at the end of each month, randomly select one PAWS slip from the bucket.

The student's PAWS slip that is selected will win a popcorn party for their entire class.

The "GOLDEN PAWS TICKET" winner for September is Samantha Sovine from Mrs. Gear's grade 4 homeroom.

Mrs. Godin's Class: This week we did an activity to think like a scientist. Kids had to look, listen, and feel to guess the properties of a few boxes then we talked about how scientists try to figure out things in a similar manner. They had to take time to hear each other’s thoughts and guess what was inside.

Reminder to all members of the student leadership team that our first meeting is Monday, October 3rd from 3:15 - 4:30).

• Remember to bring your teacher a parent's note allowing you to stay after school
• Bring your water bottle and a snack if you like.
• Come right to the cultural arts room at dismissal - be prompt
• Your parents will pick you up at the Page Hilltop entrance

There are numerous businesses that like to form partnerships with schools to either provide donations and/or collaborate on experiential learning projects. Some businesses even allow their staff to take time off from their work day to volunteer some time at school. We are asking all of our parents to speak with their business leaders/community outreach departments to see if your employer might be interested in being a community business partner with Page Hilltop. Please reach out to Mr. Deppe with any possible options.

I am looking for one or more parents who like to chat on their cell phone and may have some free time during the week to do so? If that sounds like you, we could use your help making calls to various universities & colleges as part of a school project. If interested, please contact Mr. Deppe.

The worldwide Dance for Kindness will return live on Sunday, November 13th! The event will be held at 1:00pm downtown on Main Street. We are so excited about the return of this awesome community event.

Dance registration goes live this week. Watch for special notices coming home. We hope you all will consider taking part - either as a dancer or a spectator.
