Jarrell ISD Monday Memo
November 6, 2023
Cougars,
In today's Monday Memo, we're discussing student achievements across the district. Students winning awards, earning recognition, or advancing to the playoffs is always an accomplishment worth celebrating. It not only reflects the hard work and dedication of the students but also showcases their talents and abilities.
So far this school year, our students have succeeded in all areas: academics, athletics, and fine arts.
In academics, our Career and Technical Education students have won several scholarships. Seniors Ezra Ojeda, Esteban Cruz, Fredereck Watkins, and Christian Bruner participated in the North Texas Welding Wars contest as part of the Texas High School Welding Series last month. Combined, they were awarded $3,500 in scholarships.
The Middle School and High School Radio Broadcasting teams earned a spot at the Tarleton State University Leadership Development Event Invitational Contest.
In athletics, congratulations to our middle school football teams. The 7th and 8th grade A and B football teams had solid wins in their last games.
It was fantastic to see *TWO* athletic send-offs at Jarrell High School. Last Monday, we celebrated the volleyball team going to the first round of playoffs. On Friday, we celebrated Jasmine Benavidez heading to the State Cross Country meet. It's her fourth time. On Friday, the Cougar football team will compete in the Bi-District Playoffs against the Bandera Bulldogs. Kick off is at 7:30 pm. Here's the link to buy your tickets.
In Fine Arts, the Jarrell High School Marching Band competed in the Region UIL competition and advanced to the Area Competition on October 21 in Pflugerville at Pfield. Their hard work makes Jarrell proud!
Two of our theatre students competed at the annual Texas Education Theatre Association's Theatrefest last month. Leo Chavez received a scholarship to the New York Conservatory of Dramatic Arts. Malachi Pruitt auditioned for technical design, winning an overall Honorable Mention Design Award at Designfest and acceptance into 17 universities, including an exclusive scholarship to Sam Houston State University for costume design.
Over the weekend, we saw the premiere of The Addams Family Musical. It's a fantastic play. The cast includes our high school students, teachers, community members, and students from the middle and elementary schools. Two more shows are this weekend. You don’t want to miss it.
When students succeed, their achievements are recognized by their peers. This type of recognition can inspire other students to aim for similar recognition and success. That momentum trickles down to our elementary school students, too.
As we head into winter sports, fall musicals, art contests, and academic competitions, we will see more students shine. We will see students celebrate their personal growth and know they're one day closer to making their dreams a reality. It speaks volumes about the hard work our students and staff put in daily.
As a community, we see it. We support it. We love it. Go Cougars!
