The Mighty Mascoutah
Where excellence is cultivated... #YearOfYet
September Edition
Principal Cooley's Corner
We have had an AMAZING start to this school year and wanted to share a few notes with our families. Every month you will receive a Newsletter from the school outlining all Vital Information for our families. Please read the newsletter completely and feel free to email me with any questions you may have.
PBIS Incentives and Behavioral Goals
If, as a school, we meet our overall goal, EVERY student will participate in the activity, regardless of whether they had an office incident that month or not. This will help us with our goal of teamwork and student culture.
If, as a student, you do not receive any office incidents, then the student will have the opportunity to receive a second incentive that month.
This starts FRESH each month! Each day during the announcement, we will inform students where we stand as an Entire School. We aim to promote school-appropriate behavior and reward our scholars often for meeting and exceeding goals.
Ask your scholar about this goal each day in September.
• 90% of our scholars school-wide will reach or exceed 90% daily attendance.
• 90% of our staff will reach or exceed 95% daily attendance.
ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE AND PRIZES
Attendance Matters! Regular attendance fosters a classroom community. We are beginning an incentive for classrooms to encourage students to attend regularly.
How it works:
Each classroom will receive the letters that spell "ATTENDANCE” and some sticky tack.
Each day your class has perfect attendance, a letter from the word attendance will be put up outside your classroom door for all to see. (For example, the teacher will put up the letter A on the first day all students are present. Then, the next time all students are current, put up the letter “T.” This might not be the next day; it doesn’t have to be consecutive days.)
Perfect attendance is defined as Perfect Attendance is when all students are present in class by 8:40 am and remain at school until 3:20 pm.
Each teacher will keep track of their homeroom’s daily attendance and determine when the class earns a letter of the word attendance.
Each teacher will decide what time of day the students earn the letter and celebrate in class. (For example, at the end of the school day, celebrate with your class by putting up a letter for perfect attendance. Another idea would be to celebrate the next morning, for the previous day, by putting up a letter.)
Once your class has spelled the word attendance, please email your grade level’s administrator.
Each homeroom will choose a prize: extra recess (teacher-led), a candy treat, a small bag of Goldfish, a dress-up day (your students and teacher decided), or a picnic at the park with the principals (weather permitting).
Once your class spells ATTENDANCE and they claim their prize, they can start over for another prize.
Morning Circle Drop Off
1. Only allow your student to exit the car on the sidewalk side. Our middle lane constantly moves, and we want to keep everyone safe. NO JAYWALKING! This is extremely dangerous and we want to keep everyone safe.
2. The furthest right lane is only for drop-off; please do not park here. Parking in this lane causes a huge backup on 6th Street and Harnett. Also, please pull all the way forward, and do not stop at the front door, this, too, backs up traffic.
3. If you are having a family member or friend assist with drop-off, make them aware of the protocols.
Lastly, Thank you for helping us keep our scholars safe and making drop-off easy.
