Town Meeting/Green Meadow Building Project
For a successful new Green Meadow Elementary School, the next required step is the Debt Exclusion Vote: Tuesday, November 7, 2023 (regularly scheduled statewide) 7 AM - 8 PM at Fowler for all voting precincts.
On Wednesday, October 25th, the MSBA Board of Directors voted to increase the construction funding limits on the GMES project and others that achieved Project, Scope and Budget Agreement in the same timeframe we did, on eligible construction costs from $432/SF to $568/SF. This increases the maximum MSBA grant, which needs to be confirmed in our Agreement, on the project by approximately $7M, so the MSBA share vs. Maynard share ratio changes from 35%-65% to 44%-56%.
Green Meadow Autumn Walk
The Green Meadow Autumn Walk is Tuesday, October 31!
We invite all students to come dressed in their favorite autumn costume. Please note that all costumes must be school appropriate and may not contain scary masks, knives, swords, blood etc. We recommend that students dress as their favorite book character, sports hero or favorite historical character etc. Costumes and participation are optional.
Students should bring a change of clothes in a labeled bag with their name as well as their grade level written on it. That way, they can change into their regular clothes after the walk and continue on with their day dressed in comfortable attire.
Students in the preschool AM and PM group will be walking and showcasing their costumes in the cafeteria and in the gym on Tuesday, October 31st at 9:05 AM. All other grades will be walking around the front of the school building beginning at 8:50 am.
We ask that all parents / guardians park at either Crowe Park or the Fowler Middle School parking lot and walk to the school building. Please keep in mind that buses arrive between 8:15 and 8:25 am.
All families are invited to attend our Autumn Walk. We hope to see you soon
Curriculum and Assessment Updates
Conferences
Caregiver/Teacher conferences are an important opportunity for collaboration and conversation so that together we can support our students. Many thanks to everyone who participated! Conferences will be held again the week of March 15, 2024. In the meantime, please reach out if you have questions or concerns about your child's progress.
Safety Training at Green Meadow
Over the past week students in PreK - Grade 3 had a visit from the Maynard Fire Department to learn about fire safety. Our PreK students were able to visit one of the Maynard Fire Department fire trucks which was a big hit. Special thanks to Michael Parr and his team from the MFD for their work!
Additional Safety Training
This week staff reviewed our Keeping Safe at Green Meadow presentation with students. Each class practiced what to do in the event of a lockdown or stay-in-place situation. Later next month, we will have a school-wide lockdown drill practice.
Professional Development Update
On October 20, Green Meadow staff participated in a variety of professional development with a focus on using assessment data to inform instruction. Our Grade 3 team worked on analyzing MCAS writing scores to inform CKLA planning and instruction. Grades 1 and 2 attended training about Lexia CORE5, which is an adaptive, individualized computer-based reading program that also monitors student achievement. Our PreK and Kindergarten teams worked with our math instructional coach to learn about a numeracy screening tool that will be piloted to monitor student understanding and inform instruction. Specialists and support staff worked on asynchronous training developed by our Speech and Language team to support vocabulary development and the development of social and play language.
Many, many thanks to the Maynard Education Foundation for sponsoring the visit from the Muddy Water Coffee truck! It was the perfect treat to kick off the afternoon!
