Weekly Update ~ April 11, 2016
Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
We are thrilled to see how many students signed up for the OGS Laptop Take-Home Program! Oak Grove’s new opt-in program for grades 6-8 allows parents & students to use school owned laptops at home. The enrollment period has ended for the school year. But for those who signed up, we have some announcements and best practices to share:
Until PARCC testing is finished, laptops must be left at school. We are sorry for the inconvenience, but we are taking a "better safe than sorry" approach; we need your machine to be here, charged, and in good working order for the upcoming tests.
School-owned laptops are set up to use our web content filter, even from home. While the web filter is not perfect, we are doing the best we can to keep students away from inappropriate material. We expect students to use these devices responsibly, and for families to help supervise.
Students have been issued a charger, and we advise they bring their computers fully charged and ready each school day. The best way to avoid any damages to the laptop is by using the school supplied case/sleeve during transport.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email the tech team at laptophelp@ogschool.org, or place a web help ticket. You can do this at anytime and a member of the tech team will start looking into your problem as soon as possible.
TAG Committee Hosts Lakeshore Learning Presentation
Please join us as the TAG committee hosts the Lakeshore Learning presentation "Developing Conversations about Student Learning, Fostering the School to Home Connection"
Presented by Lakeshore Learning
Oak Grove School
Tuesday, May 10th, 2016
6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.
*This presentation is targeted for parents and students in grades K-5, but all are welcome!
**We invite you to bring your child to this presentation. Each family will receive some materials and resources, targeted at students in grades K-5.
"Lakeshore Learning is dedicated to creating innovative educational materials that spark young imaginations, instill a sense of wonder and foster a lifelong love of learning. With materials for infants and toddlers through the 6th grade, we help children reach developmental milestones and achieve educational goals—while still having fun!"
Ideas and materials for engaging in challenging conversations with your child about his or her daily learning will be discussed during this presentation. These strategies will foster the connection between school and home, in order to strengthen student thinking. During the evening, we will provide you with some ‘take-away’ resources and materials that your child can use at home.
Interested in attending?
Please RSVP here or email Michelle Jackson at jackson@ogschool.org by April 25. See the flyer in the virtual backpack for additional information.
*We will be able to accommodate a maximum of 30 families. We invite you to bring your child as well.

Oak Grove Culvers Night – a Great Success!
Thank you so much to all of the families that came out to Culvers last week! We had a BIG crowd and everyone had a great time. The Culvers team said it was the largest turnout they have had for this type of fundraiser – we can always rely on our amazing Oak Grove community to rise to the top!
Also, a special thank you to all of our teachers and administrators who volunteered and sported the Culver’s apron in style – delivering food, cleaning tables and scooping ice cream. The kids so enjoyed your presence!

From Auction to Ice
Thanks to a winning silent auction bid at the Gala by Mike and Ashley Miller, some Oak Grove students were recently able to enjoy a little ice time with Principal Fenton. Luckily, there were no penalties!
Please share your Gala Auction experiences with the OG community! You can send photos to ogsfoundation@yahoo.com. Thanks!
