Miscoe Hill Weekly Update
June 7 2021
Eighth Grade Commencement
The ceremony will begin at 9am. Students should arrive at school in their typical fashion and will go to their homeroom to start the day. SAR students will go to the homeroom they were assigned at the beginning of the year.
We are asking that guests be limited to 6 per student as recommended by CDC guidelines. Guests will need to provide their own chairs/seating for the event. We will record the event and will email out a copy once the ceremony is complete.
Once the ceremony is over students will be dismissed to their families.
Finally, if we are faced with inclement weather we will move the ceremony indoors and unfortunately will not be allowed to have guests. We will attempt to make this decision at least 48 hours in advance. If we are forced into an indoor ceremony we will livestream the event and provide links for viewing at home.
1:1 Learning
Dear Miscoe Hill Families,
With the end of the school year rapidly approaching, we wanted to share our iPad collection process.
We will be collecting all iPads, cases, charging blocks, and cords for all Grade 8 students and any students planning on withdrawing from MURSD.
Returning students currently in grades 5, 6 & 7 will keep their iPad. Their devices will, however, be inspected for damage before the end of school.
Additionally, we will be conducting a spot check of all devices on 6/9 to identify any damaged devices.
A timeline for the process has been provided below. We have included a link to the appropriate Apple charging block as we sometimes receive iPhone chargers.
The tech team will charge and update the collected devices over the summer. If your child is moving on to Nipmuc, we will bring their device in late August so they will be ready for their arrival.
While we anticipate that all iPad-related items will return to school, we also wanted to provide you with the costs of any damaged or missing items.
- Missing iPad: $294
- Missing Case: $35
- Damaged iPad: $250
- Damaged iPad (with family-purchased insurance): No Cost
- Missing Charging Block / Wrong Model: $19
- Missing Charging Cord: $19
The costs provided are our direct costs. We repair devices through Apple’s GSX program to ensure that the iPad is factory-certified. Securranty is the only non-Apple repair company approved by MURSD. We've explored various repair options, both allowing families to shop on their own and even looking at external vendors ourselves. Unfortunately, we've seen inconsistent results with third-party repairs, including glass misalignment and broken home buttons.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to me via email at dquinn@mursd.org. We are happy to work with you and your family if there are any issues with this process.
Sincerely,
David J. Quinn

If your child has medication in the nurse's office please see below for pick up instructions this year.
All bottled medication must be picked up by a parent or guardian by June 17th , the last day of school. Parents are welcome June 14th -June 17th for drive by pick up. This year we are asking that you pull up in front of the building and call the nurse's office at 508-634-1589. We will come out and hand you your child's medication. Students are allowed to carry inhaler's and Epi-pen's so we will send those home with them. If you are not comfortable with this, please let us know. Have a wonderful summer.

Eagle Scout Service Project
My name is Ethan Schulte. I am an Eagle Scout candidate with Troop 44 in Mendon, MA. I have been involved in scouting since 2012. For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I have chosen to lead a donation drive for Veterans Inc., a homeless shelter for veterans in Worcester, MA. As the son of an active duty Coast Guardsman, this service project is near and dear to my heart. I am extremely proud of my father. He is my hero. He will be retiring this July after 23 plus years of service.
My grandfathers and great grandfathers have also served our country in the Army, Air-force, Navy, and the Marine Corp. I am very happy and honored to be coordinating a community event to help those in need who have served and sacrificed for you and me. The collection drive will run from June 2-16.
At this time, the shelter’s greatest needs are:
New
- Pillows
- Pillow covers and bedsheets
- Blankets
- Toilet paper
- Toothpaste
- Tooth brushes
- Chapstick
- Deodorant
- Men’s Underwear (any size)
- Men’s Socks (any size)
- Masks
- Hand Sanitizer
- Non perishable foods (granola bars)
- Bottled Water
Gently Used

On behalf of Veterans Inc. and Mendon Troop 44, any and all support is greatly appreciated.
Yours in Scouting,
Ethan Schulte
