January Primary School Newsletter

Dear Parents,

Happy New Year!! It was great having our students back in the building this week! What an exciting time of year at the Primary. Students are really growing as learners and we are seeing them shine with their accomplishments! This is a true testament of the partnership and support at home and school.

Let’s keep the growth going! Remember to read with your child each night. Students need to read with you for (1) a fluent model of what reading sounds like, (2) seeing that you value the practice needed to grow as a reader,

(3) continued practice of strategies and skills learned at school, and (4) quality time for you and your child.

As the cold weather settles in we see an increase in the incidence of illness. Please make sure your child has a coat and appropriate shoes for the colder weather. If your child needs a coat please contact the school and we would be more than willing to help.

We would like to remind you to help us in tracking these illnesses in our school. Please call the school when your child has been diagnosed with Strep Throat, Pink Eye, RSV, Flu, Norovirus, C-Diff, Hand-Foot-Mouth, Covid-19 and Head Lice. Also, we ask that you follow the guidelines as outlined in the student handbook for keeping your child home when he/she is ill.

• This means students do not return to school until they are fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine.

• If a student vomits, they need to wait 24 hours before returning to school.

• If you have questions about whether or not your child is able to return to school, feel free to give us a call.

Parents, reminder it is your responsibility to ensure availability for yourself, or a family member, to be able to pick up your ill child within a timely manner during school hours. This is imperative to ensure safety of the declining student, as well as reduce potential spread to others requiring the health office. Thank you.

Kindergarten registration for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year will take place from January 4th through February 10th. Parents/guardians may register their student(s) at the Primary School (803 S Henry Clay Blvd) Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. The student does not need to be present to register. Kindergarten screening information will come following the registration process.

In order to be eligible for kindergarten, students must be five (5) years old prior to August 1st, 2023.

The following information will need to be documented:

• Proof of residency (i.e. rental/lease agreement, utility bill, etc.). Cell phone bills and medical bills will not be accepted.
• Current immunization records meeting Missouri Department. of Health guidelines
• Certified copy of Birth Certificate (We will make a copy and return your original)

Students that will be four (4) years old prior to August 1, 2023 may apply to the preschool program. Students who are age-eligible for kindergarten are not eligible for pre-k. Applications may be obtained at the Primary School office, Central Office or online at the address listed below, click on schools, choose Southern Boone Primary School, hover over Classrooms, then choose Pre-Kindergarten and print out the application starting January 4, 2023. Applications for preschool must be returned no later than February 24, 2023. There are a limited number of students selected for this program. Applications can be mailed, dropped off, emailed or faxed to Central Office.

The Primary SUPER EAGLE Staff Recognition gives our community the opportunity to celebrate and recognize staff members at Southern Boone Primary that go above and beyond for our students. Our staff are dedicated professionals that strive to provide the best educational experience for your child. Thank you to those who have submitted a referral to recognize staff that have gone above and beyond to make a difference!
