This Week Thursday! (March 2nd) Read Across America

"WOULD YOU, COULD YOU READ IN YOUR HOOD DAY!"

Students are invited to wear their favorite hooded sweatshirt to school as our Media Center staff will be putting together a fun surprise.

LITERACY NIGHT!

We hope you will join us on 3/2/23 from 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm for our celebration of some beloved books and their characters. Our reading teachers will also have fun hands-on STEM activities for our Schurz Tigers.

Last Call for Yearbooks!

The deadline for ordering is March 5th!!

SCHURZ ELEMENTARY 22-23 YEARBOOK PREPAY LINK

Paper copy order forms will not be going home as all orders will be done online.

Yearbooks will be distributed in later spring, before the end of the school year.

PTO Kwik Trip Fundraiser

All money and order forms for the PTO Kwik Trip Fundraiser are due to the Schurz office no later than 3/3/23!

Gift and gas cards will then be delivered for students to take home in about a week.

Jig Jog

The Jig Jog 5K Walk/run for Watertown Schools will be Saturday, March 18, 2023, at the Watertown Public Library/Bentzin Family Town Square.

All proceeds for this non-profit event support teachers and classrooms in both public and private schools. (Last year over $35,000.00 was distributed through the Educational Foundation of Watertown.) Featuring live music and free raffles, it jigs and jogs over the river, past historic homes, and the famous Octagon House. Come join over 400 walkers and runners to celebrate spring and being Irish, if only for a day.

In the past 6 years, Schurz has been awarded $15,406.00 in grant money from Jig Jog (Educational Foundation of Watertown, WI) proceeds!

Summer School 2023

WUSD Summer School 2023 will run from June 20 - July 20.

Online scheduling begins Thursday, April 13, 2023, at 4:00 pm via Skyward for grades 4K - 12.

In-person assistance will be available at Schurz Elementary from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm.

Check the new and exciting classes being offered along with the 2023 coursebook, all course offerings, and all summer school forms can be found on the WUSD website https://www.watertown.k12.wi.us/o/summerschool

Just a reminder - registration cannot be done on a phone and will need to be completed on a computer.

Seal-A-Smile Results

Thank you parents of 2nd & 3rd graders for turning in the Seal-A-Smile forms last fall!

Here at Schurz school:

-53 children received care & fluoride varnish applications (fluoride varnish helps prevent around 25% of cavities)

-118 teeth were sealed (dental sealants prevent 80% of cavities in back teeth, where 9 out of 10 cavities occur)

-$11,868.29 in preventative dental care was provided

Thank you to the Watertown Public Health Department, Area Dental Clinic, District Nurse Lynn Gilbert, and Wisconsin Seal-A-Smile for helping to improve the oral health of our students and those in our community.

Did you know?

Section 116.16 of Wisconsin Statutes states that it is the responsibility of our Truancy Abatement Program Coordinator, Mr. Elliott Clark, to monitor student attendance and work with parents to send their children to school on a regular basis.

According to Wisconsin State Statute 118.15 (3), students can only be excused for 10 days (70 hours for a full-time student) without a medical excuse, for a given year. Any absences beyond 10 days can only be excused by a medical slip. Any additional absences, unexcused under School District policy when a medical excuse is not provided, will be considered truant and could eventually place both you and your child in jeopardy of being issued citations for violation of Wisconsin State Statutes that apply to school attendance.
