We are so excited to have you and your scholar(s) in the CMIT NES family! We have been working hard to get prepared for the new school year. With that said, we are always striving to improve daily practices. Have you applied/reapplied for Free and Reduced Priced Meals?
Free or reduced-price meals are available to students based on household size and income. If income falls below the amount listed below for household size, then students living within the household may qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Students are automatically eligible for free meals if the family receives assistance under the Food Supplement Program or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.
Changes and/or status changes occur every year. This year there will be a price category change as of October 11, 2023. Please be sure to apply or reapply in the event your price category is affected by this change.

Attendance
Please note we have implemented a Google form for submission of absences/late arrivals and notes. This form is the only acceptable method of communication and must be utilized for reporting absences/late arrivals and uploading doctor/medical notes ONLY for your student(s). With the exception of COVID reporting in which an email in addition to the absence form must be sent to Nurse Ann, Dr. Fryson and myself.

ABSENT NOTE SUBMISSION: Please complete this form within three (3) days once your child returns to instruction. Excused absences cannot be placed into SchoolMax until AFTER the child returns to instruction. Family vacations and trips are not considered excused absences. Refer to the Student Rights and Responsibilities Handbook for further clarification regarding excused and unexcused absences.

Immunizations
Immunizations must be up to date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication Forms attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medicines in pharmacy packaging, any adult may deliver to the nurse (appointments must be made)

This Saturday we will have. our last Summer Makeup Academy. We look forward to seeing all of our invited scholars at 9:00am. Please make sure to pick up your scholar at 11:00am.

Read-a-Thon

Health Awareness & Fitness Day/Fall Festival
The CMIT North Elementary Tiger's 5th annual Health Awareness & Fitness Day/Fall Festival is set to take place on October 28, 2023, from 11:30am-2:30pm. Prepare for an exciting day filled with activities for our scholars, health education sessions, moon bounce, games, cancer awareness initiatives, fitness exercises, healthy meal demonstrations and inspiring guest speakers. We’ve had some incredible individuals grace our event in the past, including Olympic Track & Field Champion Jackie Joyner Kersee, former NFL player Gerald Nelson, youth track champion Jaiya Patillo, and Miss Maryland Princess-Aniya Nelson. We are excitement to unveil this year’s special guest, a former WNBA player! Our primary goal is to foster wellness and inspire a wholesome lifestyle within our school and neighboring communities. We will also be raising awareness and funds in support of the Ora Lee Cancer Research Foundation. Be prepared to learn about the organization's mission and its visionary founder, Dr. Haydiah Nicole Green. We are looking forward to a wonderful Fall celebration with our CMIT community. Hey Tiger Family!! We are so excited for our Annual Donuts for Dads and Dudes Event! Hello Kindergarten Families:
As the weather has changed, and our scholars are coming in with coats and hats. Please make sure that your scholars name and grade level is on their clothing, and remind your scholars they should keep up with their items.
Friendly reminder: Please check your scholars class dojo for any important messages daily, this is the best form of communication to and from the teachers.
Preparing for our upcoming field-trip; we need to have all scholars that are attending the trip return their permission slip filled out completely and signed on both sides. ELA: We will be working on characteristics of a story, and reviewing writing format.
Social Studies: We are continuing to discuss rules at home, at school, and in the community.
Math: We are talking about comparing numbers 0-10.
Science: We will be discussing our five senses and what are they used for?
Health: We will talk about empathy. How does having empathy make us feel?
Friendly reminder: If your scholar is sick,or not feeling well,please keep them home. They should not be in school with a fever, a cough that disrupts their ability to focus and concentrate on their lessons.

Hello First Grade Families:
Our scholars are preparing for a wonderful week of STEM week ahead. Each teacher has prepared STEAM activities for their class.
The week after, scholars may participate in the book character day parade. Your scholar may choose to dress as their favorite character, with the corresponding book.
Please look out for the book report assignment from your scholar.
Our lessons this week include:

Spectacular Second Grade News!
We have an exciting and very busy week planned for next week. We will continue Unit 1 in reading, titled, "You Are Here." The weekly question is, "How can a new place help us change and grow?".
In phonics, scholars we will review r-Controlled vowels ar and or.
In Math, we will begin Topic 4. This topic focuses on fluently adding within 100.
In Science, we will continue Topic 2: Changing Matter.
As we continue to settle into the school year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly, please label your scholar's school uniform jackets.

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will begin Chapter 2: lessons 1 Goods and Services and Lesson 2 Types of Resources.
In Math this week is going to be a test heavy one! Scholars are taking our topic test on relating division to multiplication. Then at the end of the week we are taking our Topic 1-4 Cumulative test. Make sure scholars are getting plenty of rest and reviewing their work on IXL or completing our extra credit.
In Science, it's STEAM Week! Scholars are finishing up our unit on Forces and Motion by completing a project in the same format as their STEM Fair project.

Weekly News!
Next week in Reading, students will be taking their Unit 1 assessment. Students will be analyzing main idea and details in an informational text beginning in Unit 2. In Social Studies, students will discuss Growth & the Civil War. In Math, students will take Unit 4 assessment. In Science, students will describe how natural resources are converted to energy and fuel.

SUBJECT CONTENT:
Math
In math this week, students will multiply whole numbers with zeros and solve word problems using multiplication.
Science:
Students will explain what happens when different substances are mixed. Students will also explain how to slow down or speed up the dissolving process when mixing materials in water. Students will demonstrate that mixtures of solids can be separated.
Social Studies:
Students are finishing up Chapter 2 Lesson 2 Explorers of Spain. The students will be moving on to Chapter 2 Lesson 3 The Columbian Exchange next week. Have a great week!
RELA:
Students will continue with Unit 1 Week 4: Poetry and end the week with a Progress Check and spelling test. Students are continuing to work on personal narratives. Their word study focuses on suffixes and understanding the difference between -able and -ible spelling in words. The reading skill in poetry will be visualization and vocabulary in context.

Music
Hello!
K-2nd are learning more about what a steady beat is, how to move to it, and are identifying strong and weak beats as well as different time signatures!
3rd-5th grade are continuing to learn how to read music, now we are focusing on the different not values!
Technology
Greetings! K-1 students developed mouse skills such as pointing, clicking, double-clicking, and dragging while practicing counting, as well as matching shapes and colors.
2-5 students have been practicing Home Row keys including the letters v, m, b, n, c and the comma.
PE
Hello,
This week in PE, we will be playing a game called “Bag the beanbag” and it’s a team game that requires strategy & teamwork in order to accomplish the goal.
Art
Greetings,
Our tigers will be using a few activities to prepare for next week's projects. Next week's projects will include art elements like line, repetition, pattern, value, and color. They will work on linear observations along with depth of field and changing the context of imagery.

Scholars are participating in Hispanic Heritage Month, and are building Flags of the country that their class have been assigned.
STEM II
Greetings,
In STEM there has been a lot of excitement! We used our VR headsets to explore! We are still working on our unit projects. Kinder scholars have selected the shape that they think will work best for their Sail vehicle. 1st Grade scholars have started our new unit on weather. 2nd Grade scholars have been exploring bridges in different parts of the world with our VR headsets. 3rd Grade scholars are designing their pinball machines with their teams and will begin constructing them. 4th Grade scholars observed Safety Crash Tests to see how safety features are tested and improved. They will be looking at circuits to see what role they play in vehicle safety. 5th Grade scholars will be using the VR headsets to explore matter.
