Students really got into "Future Day" at Phelps. Students came as firefighters, police officers, film directors, fashion designers, scientists, nurses, surgeons, gymnasts, artists, hairdressers, athletes, and much, much more!

Our Physical Education teacher Mr. Kimball is excited to announce that Phelps will be participating in the American Heart Association's Kids Heart Challenge! This event will be taking place the week of February 14-18 during P.E. classes. Through fun activities we’ll discover ways to take care of our hearts and brains while practicing kindness, gratitude and learning ways to de-stress. We at Phelps want every student to live a heart-healthy lifestyle and participating in this challenge is a great way to start.

Here is the link to sign up for the Kids Heart Challenge for Phelps. It's fun and easy and just for registering, you receive a free Heart Hero wristband. There is an option to donate to the American Heart Association, but it is not required.

While we have been lucky to have a relatively mild and dry winter, the cold weather has finally moved in. Just a reminder, students do go outside to recess as long as it is not too cold. Please make sure that students come to school with a winter coat, hat, and gloves.

If you would like to send students to school with an extra set of hats and gloves to keep in school, students can store them in their cubbies.

Valentines Day is coming soon and the Phelps School PBIS team wants to help you with your shopping! The Love You A Lot-O-Gram will be delivered to your student in school on Valentine's Day. There are two options for you to purchase. Please see the Love You A Lot-O-Gram flyer that was sent home.

Just a reminder - these are only to be sent by an adult to a student at school, not from student to student.

Orders are due by Monday, February 7.

Half sheets of paper went home on Friday, January 14 for families to help us prepare for our enrollment for the fall and allow us to send the necessary enrollment materials to families. Please note that this form does not replace the district's enrollment documentation. If you or a neighbor have a student that will be 5 years old BEFORE September 1, 2022, please submit one form for each child. If you already submitted the paper version, there is no need to fill out the electronic copy. Here is the electronic Kindergarten Inquiry Form for Phelps.

Just a reminder, at the start of the new year, new Covid protocol was announced.

For students that test positive, self-isolation for COVID-19 positive cases is a minimum of 5 days after symptom onset or after positive PCR or antigen test, if asymptomatic. Students may return to school after 5 days (return day 6) and once they have:

1. Been without fever for 24 hours (and without taking fever-reducing medications); and experience improvement in other symptoms.
2. Following the 5-day isolation period, students must mask for 5 additional days when around others.
3. Return to school should be based on time and symptom resolution.

Please reach out to our school nurse if you have any questions regarding symptoms or to notify if a student or family member tests positive or if the student was a close contact outside of school.

Please do not send in food/snacks for classroom celebrations without reaching out to the nurse or the classroom teacher first. There are a number of students with allergies that we need to be mindful of. Our school nurse can guide you as to what is an appropriate snack to send in . There is also an option to purchase a tray of cookies through our Food Services Department. The cookie tray order form can be found here.

Buy your raffle tickets to WIN a 50" TV! Flyers will go home on Monday, January 24. The drawing will be on February 2nd and all proceeds will go to the 4th grade class!

February 24, 2022 - Looking for something to do over school vacation? Bring the kiddos to lunch or dinner at On The Border in West Springfield for another Dine to Donate from 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
