It's Spring Break - May your week be peaceful and restful!
Admin Corner
Calendar Updates
Spring break is April 11-15. The school will be open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, from 9:30am-2pm. Monday, April 18 is a teacher work day. When students return on April 19 (an A day), we will be starting the final quarter of the school year - wow!
Additionally, the School Board voted to change the school holiday from May 3rd to May 2nd to better honor Eid. Schools are now closed Monday, May 2nd and reopen Tuesday, May 3rd to start Teacher Appreciation Week.
As a reminder, per LCPS School Board Policy, the final quarter grade for fourth quarter is not subject to the 50% floor grade like previous quarters. Please continue to encourage your student to persevere with course work, attention in class, and seeking support from school resources like math lab and tutors.
Testing, 1..2..3..
Writing SOL scores are now available in ParentVue and StudentVue.
MAGIC Makers
At this month's faculty meeting, Mr. Tyson recognized the John Champe Assistant Principals as our MAGIC Makers for their consistency in showing up ready to give their all every day for every student, family, and teacher. We are grateful for our AP Team for providing leadership during uncertain times and in the difficult year following school closure. Happy Assistant Principals Week to the best around!
eSports Team
Congratulations to the two Smash teams (Chase Farester, Ethan Matteson, Marcos Cabrera, Yousif Rejab, Haiden Lee, Colin Chatman, and their coach Molly Harper) that have qualified for playoffs after spring break. Way to go, and good luck!
Restock the Shelves
The cupboard is bare! Help restock the Parent Liaison shelves with toiletries, new school supplies and backpacks for Champe students in need. Use this Walmart registry for easy ordering and shipping to the school. Questions can be directed to Suzanne.Lyles@lcps.org.
Students of the Year for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society
We are thrilled to share commendation for JCHS student candidates, Ferris Barghouty and Reed Switzer (Team Cancer Crushers - over $32,000), Christina Zheng (Team CUREsaders! - over $21,000), Sriya Botlaguduru (Team 4LIFERS - over $17,000), Ananya Chillara (Team Red - over $10,900), and Piyusha Kolli (Team Celestial - over $10,000), and their team members, for dedicating countless hours in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) Students of the Year campaign, a seven-week fundraising challenge benefitting LLS’s mission of curing blood cancers.
These incredible teams collectively raised over $92,000 for LLS. In addition, these teams along with 13 other teams across Loudoun County, collectively raised $450,000, breaking records for the local campaign, which will support new cancer research and treatments. Congratulations and thank you to these young philanthropic visionaries.
Class of 2022
When we return from spring break, we will be less than TWO MONTHS from graduation! So, inquiring minds want to know: are your senior dues paid?! When you access the Online Payment Portal, there are three items for the senior activities: celebration lunch, class breakfast, and graduation fee (cap and gown). They are listed separately due to the county's requirement to show each portion of the fees; the cap and gown must be purchased but the meals are optional. Please select the fee and add to cart; you will then need to return to the "senior activities" listing to select additional items. All fees must be paid by May 29 for your student to be included in the graduation festivities.
The senior class has a limited number of senior shirts still available for purchase in sizes small, large, and extra-large. If you would like to purchase one, please bring $12 cash to Ms. Abdelrazaq in room 2602. They are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Counseling
April is the month of the Military Child. On average, Military Children attend six to nine schools between grades K-12. In April, show your support by wearing purple. Why purple? Purple symbolizes all branches of the military, a combination of Army green, Air Force blue, Coast Guard blue, Marine red, and Navy blue. At John Champe, April 20, 2022 is designated as Purple Up Day! Faculty and students are encouraged to wear purple to show support and thank military children for their strength and sacrifices. Break out your favorite purple gear and show your support!
Stress Awareness Month
Stress Awareness Month has been held every April to raise awareness of the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic. Learning to cope with our stress and finding healthy ways to deal with these situations can go a long way in living a healthy and positive life.
HOW TO OBSERVE STRESS AWARENESS MONTH (nationaltoday.com)
-Practice meditation
One of the most effective ways to deal with stress is to learn how to silence the mind. Meditation is one of the most popular methods of achieving this quiet.
-Exercise
Another way to battle the debilitating effects of stress is to exercise. Whether you're a jogger, bicyclist our just like to take long walks, be sure to get some fresh air and exercise into your daily routine.
-Visit your doctor
They're really in the best position to get your started on the path to a stress-free lifestyle. Make an appointment today.
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO FOR STRESS AWARENESS MONTH?
-Share your coping mechanisms
If something has worked for you why not share it? It might benefit someone you care about and in the meantime, it might help you take your focus off your own challenges.
-Be nice to those who are stressed and anxious
We are all undoubtedly going to experience stress and anxiety in our lifetime, so treat others going through it with compassion and empathy.
-Look after yourself
We all need to think more about self–care. Take time out of your day to relax or do something that you enjoy. Don’t forget to exercise and eat well, even when you feel too stressed. The most crucial thing you can do when you are stressed or anxious is to make sure you are continuing to look after yourself. Make time to relax when you need to and learn to say no to requests that are too much for you.
