Volume 4– Issue 3: November 20, 2023
November, a Milestone Month
November 1st marks an important deadline for many of our seniors as they complete their early decision college applications. Our counselors have been busy assisting with these applications and writing letters of recommendation. November 9th marked the last day of our first marking period.
Also on November 9th, a milestone this fall occurred when Ms. Taylor and Ms. Cooper held our annual National Honor Society Ceremony for 195 new inductees. Ms. McCarthy and Mr. Johnson also joined in to help induct our new 11th and 12th graders.
We wrapped up our college visits for our 11th and 12th graders. We had over 84 colleges schedule visits in our counseling suite this fall till mid November. Save the date for our Career Fair on March 7, 2024 at 6 pm where we will have over 100 colleges, universities and trade schools attend.
Please remember to check out our virtual sessions this year that are geared towards parents and students as they prepare for their upcoming college years Our ASHS counselors will conduct sessions on four major components of the college application process: virtual college tours/visits, essays/letters of recommendation, creating your final application list, and completing the Common Application.
Wishing you and yours a wonderful Thanksgiving break and hope you get the time to connect and enjoy all the beauty of the fall season.

Testimonials from Abington student and parent:
Dear Pippa,
I'm shaking as I write this but I just received my ACT scores...I got a 36. English 36 Mathematics 35 Reading 35 Science 36 Composite 36
I don't know how to react right now, I'm extremely happy and grateful for your tutoring and directions. I'm having difficulty writing this but I am overwhelmed by emotions. I went from a 1290 on the PSAT to a 31 on my first attempt and now a 36.
Thank you so much, Andy The ACT is out of 36
Andy received a full scholarship to Princeton University, Class of 2023
Dear Pippa, As senior year winds down for Gabby we want to take a moment to tell you how much we have appreciated your tutoring of both of our daughters. Their work with you made all of those important tests relatively painless, and your encouragement helped them to be confident of their abilities. You also gave them great insight into how to approach writing their college essays. Both of our daughters got into their top choice for college and it could not have happened without you! We hope that you will enjoy the Amazon gift card. Thanks again! Karen and Paul N. Abington parents PS. We tell everyone we know with H.S. kids about you!
Sarah was admitted early into Amherst College & Gabby early into Johns Hopkins University
I have worked with 100’s of students across the region, who are accepted into a diversity of excellent colleges. If you have questions about navigating the college process, it would be a pleasure to assist you. Pippa

On Friday, November 10th, Abington Senior High School observed Veterans Day with a special edition Veterans Day Career Chatter in the Black Box Theater. Teachers, alumni and community members who are Veterans participated in a panel discussion sharing their experiences and talking about their paths from military service to careers, and how the skills they learned in the armed forces have helped them in their current roles. Abington School District veterans were also invited to attend, and were recognized by Dr. Fecher during a portion of the program. Additionally, Social Studies classes collected items to donate to the Coatesville VA throughout the week, with students contributing clothing, toiletries and more than $600 in giftcards for local veterans, thanks to the assistance of one of the panelists who picked up the items for distribution.
You can find more details about programming on the Career Pathways website here and you can follow the program on Instagram @careerpathwayscoach.

The Montgomery County Coroners came to Career Chatter on Wednesday 11/15. They discussed their education paths to their current jobs. They explained their workload in terms of the number of deaths in the county per year and how they determine which to investigate for cause, manner, and time of death. They detailed specific cases they've worked on in terms of how they used forensic clues like rigor mortis, lividity, and insect activity. Both the Deputy Coroner and Autopsy technician described their mindset and strategies for doing difficult emotional and physical work in terms of its importance to the community.
