The Cardinal Letter
Spring Edition 2021/2022
Dear Parents and Students...
Spring has finally arrived! I hope this this upcoming week off will give families time to relax and rejuvenate.
There are so many great things that happened at Chi-Hi this past quarter. We had students go to state in Men’s Swim, Bowling, and Gymnastics. We are so proud of all of our students' accomplishments. The dedication of our coaches, parental support, and student talent and drive continue to support the growth of our athletic programs and helped earn Chi-Hi achievements this year. These successes help to sustain a positive school culture.
During the spring season, we are deep into state assessments. We have completed the ACT. The students put a lot of effort into the state assessment and the online testing process ran smoothly.
Other upcoming state assessments include the Forward and Aspire. The Forward Exam is on April 1 and April 14, depending on when your 10th grade son or daughter has a US History Class.
The Aspire Test for ninth and tenth graders is coming up on April 19. Testing will be done during the morning, and after lunch, the students will be able to be released early or stay on campus to participate in a scheduled activity.
Our spring athletic programs are currently underway. You can follow the weekly Cardinal Activities newsletter or Twitter feeds for updates on competition dates or changes.
We are hosting a prom on Saturday, April 30. The theme is "Old Hollywood". We will roll out the red carpet to welcome our students to the big event.
We have a lot to be grateful for this school year: successful athletic and academic programs, great students, staff, parents, and community members. Thanks for your partnership in making our school a place for our students to grow and find their purpose.
Respectfully yours,
Donna Goodman

Class of 2022 Timeline
- Jostens Distributes Cap/Gown & Tassel Orders/Graduation Announcements/Class of 2022 Memorabilia - a representative from Jostens will be set up down by the Cardinal Doors on Monday, March 28 during Prime Time (3:09-3:50) to distribute cap/gown/tassel, announcements, and memorabilia orders. IF you are going to be gone on March 28, Jostens will leave merchandise that is paid for in full and you can pick your order up when you return to school. Orders with a balance due that don't get picked up on the 28th will go back to the Jostens office in Eau Claire. If you did NOT order a cap/gown/tassel and still need to do so, please reach out to Jostens at 715-832-0762 or via email at ted.annis@jostens.com.
- Late March/Early April 2022 - Seniors will receive an email with TWO important online forms that need to be completed and sent back - The Senior Spotlight form, which asks the student to provide a little background about clubs/activities they participated in, a favorite HS memory, and their future plans. The Grad Name Announcement Preference form asks the seniors to write down how they would like their name announced by Mr. Thompson as they drive through the loop during the processional. Including phonetic spelling is helpful if people often mispronounce the student's name. In the past, this effort has required numerous reminder emails to our seniors. Let's see if the Class of 2022 can change the need for that!
- April 2022 - Senior Grad Party emails will start going out to parents asking for volunteer help. It takes a village and they need your help to make this event special for our graduates.
- Mid-Late April 2022 - Seniors will receive emails about purchasing their tickets for the Senior Grad Party on the evening of graduation. There will be a specific deadline included, thus seniors are encouraged to get their ticket right away so they are eligible for prizes. Email reminders are sent prior to the deadline.
- Late April 2022 - The Senior Letter will be emailed to graduates AND their parents. The Senior Letter has specific details about the plans/guidelines for the processional, distribution of cap, gown & tassel orders, returning Chromebooks, diplomas, fees and fines, the Senior Recognition Awards Program and the Senior Scholarship Awards Program, yearbook distribution, picture frame order forms and more.

Costa Rica 2023
The Spanish Department is excited to announce that we will again be offering a language immersion trip in June of 2023 to Costa Rica. The week-long trip provides students an opportunity to travel around the country, visiting some of Costa Rica’s most popular destinations including the Arenal Volcano region, the Sarapiqui River and the Pacific Coast. In addition, students have the unique opportunity to live with a host family for 3 nights.
To be eligible to travel, students must be enrolled in a Spanish class for the 2022-23 school year and at the time of travel have completed through Spanish 3.
There will be an informational meeting on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 in the Chi-Hi Library at 6:30 PM for any interested students and their parents.

Registration will be held Monday, August 22 through Wednesday, August 24 from 7:30am until 4:00pm.
In-person registration is completely optional. Most registration activities can be completed online starting August 1. Students who would like to register in person but will be out of town or have other conflicts preventing them from attending one of the registration days will have an opportunity to complete the registration activities once school starts in September.
Once again, we will not have picture day during the registration event. Picture day has been planned for Friday, September 9th, during the school day.
New Student Appointments: High school students who are entering the CFAUSD will have an opportunity in mid-August to meet with a counselor and set up a course schedule. Appointments will be set up Tuesday, August 16 through Thursday, August 18, from 7:30am until 4:00pm. A staff member will be contacting families to set up appointments during the first week of August.
For More Information: An online newsletter will be sent out to families in late July with detailed registration information. Questions regarding registration can also be directed to Danielle Hatfield at hatfiedn@chipfalls.org.

Regular student attendance is required by law (State Statute 118.16) and is essential if students are to make satisfactory progress in school. Students are required to attend all class periods. It is the responsibility of the student and the parent to see that the student attends school each day school is in session. Excused absences include illness or injury; medical, legal, DMV or military appointments, college visits, funerals, school-related activities including sporting or competitive events and field trips, family vacations (please notify the school in advance), and family emergencies.
MEDICAL EXCUSE REQUIREMENT: Excessive student absences may result in the student being placed “On Medical”. Parents will receive a letter notifying them that their student has been placed “On Medical” and all future illness-related absences may require a medical excuse from a physician.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: Any absence that is not cleared by a parent or guardian within 5 school days of the absence (the day of the absence and 4 additional school days) may be listed permanently as unexcused, which will generate a major behavior referral.
