UNESCO School
Dear Parent(s),
For this week's memo and for future memos I will highlight some of our School Continuous Improvement Plan (S.C.I.P.)
One of our S.C.I.P. goals this year includes the revitalization of our commitment to the UNESCO global education project. As you may know Niton Central was recognized as a UNESCO school in 2006. Created in 1953, the UNESCO Schools Network, also known as the Associated Schools Project Network (ASPnet), connects schools across the world to promote international understanding, peace, human rights, intercultural dialogue, sustainable development and quality education. The network includes more than 11,500 schools in 182 countries. The UNESCO Schools Network also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development—particularly Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4, which is “to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.”

Mock Legislature
The mock legislature experience provides students with the unique opportunity to participate in a simulation of the parliamentary process. The program is a fun and engaging way for students to learn about government and the legislative system. It guides them through the stages of passing a Bill and introduces them to the excitement, strategy and skill of debate. Grade 5/6 students continued learning about the provincial legislature through making their own legislative mace. Students learned about the history and symbols of Alberta's legislative mace, and have to create their own with their own symbols. Students had a blast getting more indepth in the legislative process.
