At Lakeside Elementary our mission is to provide diverse opportunities for learning as appropriate for each student to become productive members of society.

Dear Lakeside Families,

Indiana has announced the launch of a Call-and-Learn Hotline for students to use Monday through Friday, 1-5 p.m., that will be operated by members of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association (IRTA). Students can call 1-877-45-study M-F from 1-5 pm for additional support with remote learning.

There have been a few adjustments made to our food outreach program starting the week of May 4th. We will continue on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11-1 at 11 locations. Renaissance School, located at 30th and Post Road will be a new site and will replace Hawthorne Elementary. Wednesdays will continue to be 5:30 - 7 at 2 locations. Lakeside Elementary and now our Moorhead location at 8400 East Tenth Street will be a new site. Also, just a reminder that next week is Teacher Appreciation week! I encourage all students to show their appreciation for their teachers by creating a poster or sign to share their support. Our administrative team is collecting those pictures of students for a video project to share with teachers. You can email those to us at lakesidelionsroar@gmail.com

Lastly, registration for Kindergarten and Preschool in Warren Township begins on Monday, May 4th. There will be a live webinar May 4th at 7 pm. Principals and teachers will present information about Kindergarten and Preschool programs in Warren, demonstrate information about how to register online, and conduct a live question & answer session with audience members. Children must be age 5 on or before September 1 to register for Kindergarten and age 3 on or before September 1 to register for Preschool."

MSD of Warren Township is evaluating our technology needs and how to better serve our families and students of the district. Since iPads and Chromebooks require a WiFi connection, we are interested to know whether our students have access to WiFi at home.

Lakeside families, if you have purchased a Lakeside yearbook for your student they are scheduled to arrive near the end of May as usual. We will work with everyone to distribute the yearbooks in a safe way per state health regulations. If you would still like to order a yearbook the PTA did order 40 extra that could be purchased as well in May. I will update you all once the Yearbooks have been delivered.

As a parent or guardian of a student attending a Warren school, you have online access to your child or children's courses, grades, attendance, discipline, and academic history. The student and parent portal has been upgraded to Tyler SIS Student 360. This new portal offers parents, students and district staff online access to student information via the Web on PCs or tablets or on a smartphone application — providing comprehensive functionality with a touch-friendly, intuitive interface. Wednesday Evening: Food outreach site at Post Road Christian Church and Lakeside Elementary from 5:30 - 7:00 on Wednesday evenings.

Tuesday and Fridays: 6 meals on Tuesdays and 8 meals on Fridays at now 11 locations from 11:00 -1:00.

Playworks has for over 24 years focused on bringing games and activities to schools, while creating a safe and healthy recess for students. We are now, more than ever, committed to responding to the need for continued healthy activities at home through several resources we are offering for free:

• Play at Home Webpage: A library of videos and other resources featuring games and activities families can play at home. Each meeting the CDC requirements of social distancing and limited equipment. All available free on the Play at Home webpage

• Play at Home Playbook: This game guide has a variety of games and activities families can do in their own home, with little to no equipment necessary.

• Live Virtual Recess: A Playworks Coach leading a morning warm-up, a midday game, and an afternoon cooldown each day. Anyone can tune into Facebook Live Monday- Friday at 12:00pm, 2:00pm, and 4:00pm EST and play along.

Community Compass launched an app recently to help users find food pantries, farmers’ markets and hot meal sites. It is also designed to navigate a variety of nutrition assistance programs, such as the Supplement Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) programs. However, we will honor your request to not include your child in these types of recognitions if you notify your child's school office in writing that you do not want this type of information released.
