WST
Weekly Update

Principal's Message
WST has had a great start to the year. Thank you families, staff, and students for your support and grace as we transition to the 'new' West Sound Tech. We are still working out some of the challenges, but are excited for the opportunities ahead.
Items of Note:
Parking Passes:
Thank you to all the families that have submitted parking exception requests and thank you for your patience as we work through how many spots are available and how many can be granted. If your child only needs personal transportation once or twice a week, please complete the Short-Term Parking Request (there are specific spots set aside for this use).
Thank you for your patience as we work through the more than 100 requests for parking. we only have 25 parking spaces available for WST students and are trying to figure out priority. For those that may be denied right now, know that if parking opens up (we are working on solutions), we will approve those that were initially denied.
Students approved for parking must also submit the vehicle registration documentation to the main office.
Another note with parking passes - if students regularly show up late and/or leave campus early without prior permission the parking pass will be revoked.
Student Handbook/Photo Release/Syllabus:
There are several items your student should have asked for parent signature on, including the student handbook signature page, the photo released document and the classroom syllabus. Please work with your student to get these submitted to their instructors soon.
Questions or Concerns:
Please contact me, Shani Watkins, at 360-473-0550 or via email at Shani.watkins@westsoundtech.org.

WST picture day is coming up next week: Tuesday, September 26th
Students may purchase portrait packages and the photo taken will be used for their required WST ID card.
WST Experience of the Week
Students in criminal justice had Search and Rescue on campus yesterday. Not only did they answer student questions, they also let students experience, in action, the activities they engage in during a search and rescue event. Learn more about Kitsap County Search and Rescue.

Student Drop Off and Pick Up
Parents, please drop off and pick up students on the SOUTH side of WST, in the WST parking lot. Please DO NOT use the north entrance as that is the ESD parking only. There are small children in and out of the ESD and we have an agreement to have all WST traffic enter and exit through the WST parking lot. Buses do route through the ESD parking lot for bus lane only.
Attendance Process
Please remember that there are TWO parts to the attendance process at WST:
At West Sound Tech, we are preparing students for life and careers. Our attendance procedures meet both the preparation for life for students and the state requirements for reporting an absence. While it may seem like this duplicates the process it helps to develop student accountability while also following the law. There are two steps to the WST reporting process, student responsibility to contact the instructor directly and the parent/guardian responsibility to officially report the absence to the registrar.
STEP 1: Student Responsibility
Just as you would in the workplace, students at West Sound Tech MUST contact their instructor if the student is absent. Contact your instructor by either email or phone, just as you would for a job, and explain your absence to the instructor. (EXAMPLE: Good morning Ms. Sanford, this is Geneva. I am sick and will be absent today. I plan to be back at school tomorrow). Many of our teachers now use REMIND, so you may send a message through REMIND to your instructor as well.
STEP 2: Parent/Guardian Responsibility
A parent MUST report an absence in writing or by phone call.
IMPORTANT: Absences MUST be reported to both the student's home school and to WST separately.
Parents, please follow-up a student absence with an email to the registrar:
(ERIN.MCKIERNAN@WESTSOUNDTECH.ORG), a phone call (360-473-0557), or written documentation with the following information:
STUDENT NAME | DATE OF ABSENCE | REASON FOR THE ABSENCE
Parent Skyward Access for WST
Parents/guardians, WST has a separate Skyward access than your student's sending school. Please contact Erin Scott, the WST registrar to access your student's Skyward account to check attendance and grades.
To contact Erin, please email: Erin.mckiernan@westsoundtech.org
No Food on Campus
Unfortunately, someone broke into the WST vending machines and we will no longer have vending machines on campus with drinks and snacks.
Each classroom has water dispensers, please have your students bring their own water bottle to fill. Each sending school provides lunch for all WST students. Please have your student check in with their sending school on the process to pick up their daily lunch.
