Bernardo Parent Bulletin #20
December 18, 2023
The holidays are definitely my family's favorite time of year when we get to unwind, slow down, and have some fun together. During the break, I am especially excited that my oldest daughter Kailey and her husband will be coming to visit for a week from Utah. It seems like yesterday she was just a little girl excited to see Santa and now she is married and teaches 5th grade. Where does the time go?!?
I hope that everyone enjoy a well-deserved break and makes lots of awesome memories with your own kiddos. They grow up before you know it so be sure to slow down and cherish the moments together.
Happy Holidays!

Dress Up Days This Week
Our students in our FBI (For Bernardo's Information) Club have designated some fun dress-up days this week for our school. We know that kindergarten already has other dress-up days planned so if you have a kindergartener feel free to follow the kindergarten plan or you can be creative and try to combine if you'd like!
Opportunity To Help An Amazing Bernardo Family
We have an opportunity to support an amazing 2nd grade Bernardo student named Olive Knecht. Olive has been diagnosed with Mixed Cerebral Palsy, HIE, and more recently, Uncontrolled Epilepsy. In the midst of these challenges, Olive is an incredibly loving and happy child that brings joy and light to everyone she interacts with.
Olive's family is raising funds to create an ADA compliant bathroom and modify the stairs in their home to insert a lift. Thankfully, through an incredible agency called the Mitchell Thorp Foundation, they have secured donations for all of the construction labor costs. Now, the family needs to raise funds for all of the materials, estimated to cost about $60,000.
We wanted to share about an upcoming 5K race where all of the funds raised through Olive's team "Muffins Miracles" will be donated towards this renovation. To learn more about Olive and how you can help support this great cause, please click the link below.

Dry Nose Tips From Nurse Jeri
Many kids (and adults) are experiencing dry noses causing nose bleeds. Below are a few tips that might help:
- Spread water-soluble nasal gels or ointments in your nostrils with a cotton swab.
- Use a saline nasal spray or saline nose drops two to three times a day in each nostril.
- Run a humidifier in your bedroom at night to add moisture to the air.
