Eastside Elementary
February Newsletter 2023
From the Principal
Happy February!
We are grateful for the opportunity to learn with your children everyday. Thank you for partnering with us as we ensure high levels of learning for all students.
Below are a few updates for the month of February.
WY-TOPP
We wrapped up winter WY-TOPP testing for grades 3-5. Teams will be going through the data from those assessments to help determine priority areas moving forward. The summative assessment window is April 11th through May 5th. Information regarding testing schedules will be sent out as we near those dates. If you have any questions about WY-TOPP please feel free to reach out to your child’s classroom teacher.
ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate)
Our teachers went through ALICE training in January. The purpose of this training is to ensure our staff has the skills and knowledge necessary to best respond in various types of crisis situations. This training will adjust how we do certain practice drills in the future. Parents will be informed as we make these adjustments.
Principal Parent Focus Group
This is a time set aside for parents to meet with Mr. Gallagher. The purpose of this meeting is for parents to ask questions and share feedback. Mr. Gallagher will also share some of the work that teams are doing at Eastside. This is an opportunity to gain some insight into the operations of Eastside, how decisions are made, as well as provide feedback on decisions. We will meet from 8:00 to 8:45 AM on Friday, March 3rd in the Eastside library.
Here are notes from last month’s meeting (Link). At our next meeting, two of the topics we will be discussing are homework and school communication systems.
PTK
Our PTK meets on the first Thursday of each month. February's meeting is Thursday, February 2nd, 3:30-4:30pm. Childcare is provided. We encourage all parents to attend!
Here’s to another great month at Eastside!
Mr. Gallagher
Learn Together, SOAR Together, the Key is Me.
From Nurse NeeNee
During the month of February, the American Dental Association celebrates National Children’s Dental Health Month. This month-long national health observance reinforces the importance of oral health in children as well as helping parents with tips to keep their child’s smile on track! Brushing twice a day for two minutes and flossing daily are habits that will positively impact the oral health of your child.
Dr. Eric Taylor of Taylor Dental has graciously offered to perform free dental health screenings for Eastside students on Wednesday, February 8th.
No x-rays will be taken and this screening does not replace an in-office dental examination by your family dentist.
Results will be sent home with your child the following week. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at 587-4275.
Thank you,
Nurse NeeNee
