Cannon's Summer Reading Challenge
What
The GCISD Reads Challenge for the 2020-2021 school year starts June 1! All the reading you do over the summer months counts towards your challenge goal for next school year. Students are recognized EVERY time they finish the challenge so don't just plan to finish the challenge one time; finish it over and over again! Whether we are learning in the building or learning at home, plan to read and finish the Challenge!
Who
All Cannon students grades Kindergarten-5th grade!
When
The challenge begins June 1, 2020 and ends May 1, 2021. All the reading students do during the summer counts towards their GCISD Reading Challenge for the upcoming school year.
Step 1: Decide if you are going to keep track of pages, books, or genres.
Step 2: Visit the Grapevine Public Library to check out some books or plan to read ebooks from our GCISD Overdrive digital library on your student device.
Step 3: Choose a tracking sheet. Keep track of how many pages, books, or genres you read over the summer on a tracking sheet. Links to tracking sheets can be found on the Cannon website on the Learning Commons Summer Reading page.
Step 4: Give your summer reading tracking sheet to Mrs. Wagner when school begins in August.
Why
Students who read during the summer keep their skills sharp and avoid having their comprehension and fluency slide backwards.
All Cannon students who turn in a summer reading tracking sheet will be invited to a party in September!
