Barber Bulletin
Dear Families,
December is here! Cooler temperatures… disappearing daylight. The upcoming weeks can become quite overwhelming as families prepare for family gatherings, special travels, and perhaps some shopping outings in preparation for special traditions. As much as we’d all like to feel that we are organized and well-prepared for the upcoming weeks, each family deals with the stress of the holidays in different ways. Oftentimes, children fall victim to later bedtimes, hectic trips to the store for that last item, and sometimes experience first-hand the financial stress that plagues many families during this time of the year. Routines often fall to the wayside along with daily reading practices, consistent homework support, and even family meals. At times families need to make a concerted effort to see that the rush and stresses of the holiday season do not seep into their child’s daily routine and need for consistency. Continue to help students Put 1st Things 1ST this last week before winter break. This is one of our 7 Habits that we practice each day.
In a time where the hope for a peaceful and tranquil holiday season is sought and the act of giving is contagious, members of our Student Council shared a new service project with students. Each grade level is being asked to contribute different food and household items to help make the holidays more enjoyable for some of our less fortunate families in our community. Thank you for helping our students learn about giving to others during this holiday time. Your donations are greatly appreciated. All donations will be provided to the Family Shelter.
Our students are still focusing strong on the 7 Habits and we continue to recognize students who are making good choices. I am particularly proud of 5th grade student, Dontavious Wilson. Dontavious recently found $30 on the playground during his recess and turned it in to his teacher. Way to be PROACTIVE!
Shop 'til You Drop
We will be holding a Shop 'til You Drop Holiday Store on December 12th. During this time, we will have community members (like you!) selling their merchandise/services. The price to rent a table is just $10. Teachers will come during their planning period to shop. Our families and community members do so much to support us, so we want to take the time during the holiday season to support you as well. If you are interested, please contact Mrs. Avant @ jeavant@richland2.org. She will send more details your way.

Chorus Performance
The Pontiac Chorus will be presenting the holiday musical, "Holly Jolly Jukebox" by John Jacobson and Roger Emerson at the Richland Two District Auditorium on Monday, December 11th from 7:00 - 7:30 pm. "Holly Jolly Jukebox" is a fun holiday musical that features a talking jukebox that spins records from the '40s to the '80s - back to the good ole days of swing, doo wop, beach music, and disco! See how the Jukebox learns that we all have something to share no matter how old or "outdated" we think we are.
We will also have special holiday music performed by our Assistant Principal, Mr. Taurean Robinson on tenor saxophone, accompanied on piano by Mr. Craig Duensing starting at 6:30 pm in the lobby of the auditorium.
There is no admission fee, but a donation of $2.00 per adult and $1.00 per child is suggested. Punch and cookie refreshments will also be available for purchase and enjoyment in the lobby before and after the show.
Lost and Found
Parents, we have several jackets, hats, and other items in our lost and found that have not been claimed. Due to the high volume of items, on the last day before Winter break,we will be donating any items that are left behind to local shelters. Please make a stop at our lost and found, located across from the ASAP desk, to claim your child's lost item before Friday, December 15th.
Film Festival
Film Festival Deadline to submit the interest form has been extended to December 15.
What is the Film Festival?
Each year, Richland Two provides a unique opportunity for students and district staff to share their story through video creation. We are excited to be in our 5th year and know this will be a bigger event this year. Our window of opportunity begins on November 6th, where students can begin finding a school sponsor, complete the interest form and turn in permission slips. Visit our timeline of events page to get the important dates.

Music Fundraiser
Thank you to everyone who supported our fall music fundraiser! We raised over $3,000 to use toward purchasing new instruments. Everyone should have received their items last week. Please let me know ASAP if there was anything wrong with your order so I can contact the company before we leave for winter break. We will announce the winners of the teddy bear drawing at our school chorus performance next Thursday morning.
