A Message from our Principal!
Greetings Braves Family,
We are off to a great start this school year. Throughout each day the students are experiencing wonderful opportunities inside and outside the classroom.
Congratulations to our 2023 Teacher of the Year, Mr. Larry Bowles. We are excited that Mr. Bowles will represent the River at the city-wide Teacher of the Year Ceremony held here at Indian River on Thursday, December 1st.
This week we are thrilled to launch our Homecoming activities with the Homecoming Dance, Saturday, October 8th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we RISE together. As always, Braves are who we are and RISE is what we do!

Student Online Verification
Still need to complete the Online Verification process? Come to IRHS on Wednesday, October 19 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Staff members will be available to assist you in completing the process, we will have ParentVUE codes and Chromebooks available for use.
All families must complete the student online verification process. Families must log on to their ParentVUE account to verify their student’s information. The verification process allows our families to confirm or update information for all children in a household at one time.
EMERGENCY CONTACTS
Please verify individuals who may pick up your child from school in case of an emergency. We recommend having three to five people designated as emergency contacts.
HEALTH INFORMATION
Update your child’s health information through this process. You can report medical issues and allergy information to your child’s school.
MEDIA PARTICIPATION
Through our “Opt Out” preferences, families can provide their consent to have their student’s photo or work showcased or celebrated on our district or school social media accounts, websites, yearbooks, or other media. You may also opt out of certain directory information requests.

IRHS Spirit Week!
2022 PSAT Test
The PSAT test this year is scheduled for Wednesday, October 12th. The PSAT is free for all 10th graders. The school schedule on Wednesday, October 12th, will be adjusted to allow every 10th grader to take the test. Students from grades 9 and 11 can opt to take the PSAT. Please see additional information below.
No Food Deliveries Allowed
In an effort to minimize interruptions to instructional time, please know that no food deliveries for students are allowed during the school day. Please know that breakfast and lunch are free for all students this school year.
No Cell Phone or Earbud Deliveries Allowed
Due to the new cell phone policy, we will not allow cell phones or earbuds to be dropped off for students. Thank you for your support for this policy.
One Login and Password Help
- The CPS Help Desk assists all students, and parents of Virginia's Chesapeake Public Schools District with their technology questions and requests.
- The Help Desk provides a centralized place to find resources for all your technology questions as well as showcase the integration of technology throughout the school district.
- If you are having trouble accessing OneLogin or StudentVue or ParentVue, please access the CPS Help Desk for assistance.

Report to Class!
Upon arrival, students should report directly to their homeroom classroom or to the commons area or D-hall for grab and go breakfast. Students may drop off instruments before they report to homeroom.
First Bell Rings at 8:55 a.m. Students are considered tardy after 8:55 a.m.

Please read the newly adopted Dress Code Policy recently revised by Chesapeake Public Schools. The new dress code policy will be effective beginning with the 2022 school year.

How to Purchase Tickets
Tickets for high school athletic events must be purchased online using the GoFan website. GoFan sells mobile tickets for ALL high school athletic events – including all sports for home and away games. Purchasing tickets online permits fans to easily access and share tickets (email or text) without standing in line.

Chesapeake Public Schools Revised 2.0 GPA Policy for Athletic Eligibility for 2022-2023
The 2.0 requirement for student-athlete eligibility has been revised for the first semester of the 2022-2023 school year. A student-athlete who does not meet the current 2.0 GPA requirement will be allowed to use their one-time probation period during the first semester of the school year 2022-2023 if he/she established a 2.0 GPA at any time during their 8th-11th grade school years. In order for a student-athlete to use their one-time probation period the following criteria must be met:
Student-athlete must be VHSL eligible as determined by the school
Schools must determine which semester the student-athlete established a 2.0
Schools must submit all supporting documentation to the Office of Student Activities
The Office of Student Activities will review documents to determine eligibility
If approved by the Office of Student Activities, the student-athlete will be permitted to use their one-time probation period during the fall semester of the school year 2022-2023 under the following conditions:
Schools must communicate with the student-athlete and parent(s) in writing that he/she is using their one-time probationary period
Schools must also communicate with the student-athlete and parent(s) in writing that he/she will not have another probation period during their high school career.
Student-athlete must attend mandatory study hall during the sports season
Schools must maintain a list of student-athletes who use their probation period under this provision
