Curriculum Update
We are continuing to learn all about stories and the children have loved engaging in collaborative story telling during our inquiry play sessions. Next stop - the story of our Christmas show!
The children have begun to look at past, present and future this week so this can be a good talking point at home. You can support their understanding of the passage of time with prompts such as, 'What did you do yesterday?', 'Tomorrow we are...' and also showing them pictures of when they were younger. They will also begin to look at verb tenses in grammar, for example 'look' becoming 'looked' and 'go' becoming 'went'.
In Mathematics, we have been practising our number bonds and learning about fact families to help with our fluency. These are 3 numbers which work together to create 4 different number sentences: 2 addition and 2 subtraction. You can support at home by asking them questions such as 'Which number bonds with 8 to make 10?' or 'What do you add to 13 to make 20?' or even making these houses with your children if you would like.

Chinese Learning
Please click on the following link for this week's Chinese learning in Year 2.
Chinese-a-thon
To celebrate our children's Chinese learning and to make our Chinese programme even more wonderful, the PTA and the Chinese Department are jointly hosting a Chinese-a-thon on 11 November 2022 (also known as 11/11). (Please watch this video to see how excited our community is about the event.)
Funds raised from the Chinese-a-thon will be used for the benefit of all our students by enhancing the Chinese language materials we have in school. Please help your children by sponsoring their efforts (here are the wordlists by year group).
Once your child has collected sponsorship pledges on this sponsorship form, add them together and use this form to state the total amount that will be donated to school to fund Chinese projects. You will then be invoiced for a single amount to send the total amount donated by bank transfer.
Please ensure you submit the form so that your child is awarded House Points for their effort.
Deadline to submit this form: Monday 14th November 2022
Thank you for supporting the Chinese Programme at Kennedy School, and the PTA’s fundraising efforts.
Box of Hope
We have had some amazing Boxes of Hope so far - these will be sent to families in Hong Kong and South-East Asia who are in difficult circumstances. Please send the boxes into class by Friday 11 November 2022.
Thank you so much.
Extra-curricular Sporting Activities
As I'm sure you're glad to hear, several sporting tournaments and matches between schools in Hong Kong are finally resuming. After more than three years without school competition, we are extremely pleased to see this.
In light of this, it is crucial that the PE Department at Kennedy School has a deeper grasp of what our kids are up to in terms of their extracurricular sporting activities. This information is crucial and will allow us to provide our students with opportunities to represent Kennedy School in their preferred/strongest sport.
To assist us in making more informed decisions on the selection of sports teams, especially so early in the school year, we would appreciate it if you could offer a brief description of any current sporting activities your child participates in outside of Kennedy School.
If you have more than one child at Kennedy School please fill in the form separately for each of your children.
Parent Volunteers needed
Parent Volunteers are an important part of the library, who help us accomplish many core tasks required to provide high-quality services. The library is having a makeover this year, therefore we hope to have as many volunteers as possible. If you would like to help out then please see details below.
