Link Crew Football Tailgate
Link Crew is a 7th grade mentoring group of 8th & 9th grade volunteers. Their goal is to make sure the 7th graders feel welcome, assimilate into, and are part of the Dryden High School family. They run monthly events for the 7th graders and try to help them navigate high school teachers, classes, and events.
This tailgate involved food, games, and face paint/tattoos to get excited for the game. It was also designed to encourage the younger kids to participate in after-school events and feel like they were going there with friends. It provided a safe way for them to "try out" coming to a sports event, in case they had not before. Hopefully, it will make them want to come back again.
Link Leaders:
Madilyn Thorman, Kaeleigh Gourieux, Ivy Brown, Logan Romain, Jayden Stankevich, Mckinley Gammon, Penelope Spencer, Levi Fitchett

Senior Seminar Speaker
Note: Dryden High School seniors have the opportunity to take Senior Seminar, a class offered for the eighth year in a row in conjunction with the Michigan College Access Network (MCAN).
MCAN's mission is to increase college readiness, participation, and completion in Michigan, particularly among low-income students, first-generation college-going students, and students of color. Further, the goal of the College Planning Course is to increase college completion by lowering barriers that prevent students from getting to and through college, including Social Capital, Academic Preparation, College Knowledge, and Affordability. College is defined as the attainment of education beyond high school, including postsecondary certificates and academic degrees.
Weekly guest speaker topics may range from specific educational opportunities to post-secondary life skills as well as the knowledge necessary to be productive members of a community, among others.
Northern Michigan University
Kim Randolph visited Dryden High School to discuss the journey to and through college. She is an Assistant Director of Admissions for Northern Michigan University specializing in the enrollment process for new students. NMU is a 4-year university located in Marquette, Michigan. They offer many opportunities to support your academic career with over 180 available majors.
Kim is someone I would consider quite personable. Seeing as though she was our first speaker, it was no surprise the class was nervous. To make things just a little worse for all of us, she was there to talk about a senior's biggest fear. College. Even with all the tension in the room, she managed to make everyone feel comfortable. While discussing things like the process of picking a major that's right for you, she reassured us that it is perfectly okay to not know what career you want to pursue. The class listened intently as she talked about what you might do with your major, NMU’s campus life, etc. She shared with us her own personal experience at NMU, including details regarding switching her major and anxiety about moving to a new place so far away.
The one thing that stood out to me was her tips to help students determine their major. She recommends going through a list of degree programs and crossing out the ones you would 100% not want to do. Then highlight all of the ones that you have the most interest in. Being that it was so simple, it sounded like silly to me. But, as someone who is currently undecided, indecisive, and finds interest in just about everything, this small tip genuinely helped. I didn’t feel so lost anymore; it gave me a sense of direction and control.
