San Diego Zoo Global is committed to saving species worldwide by uniting our expertise in animal care and conservation science with our dedication to inspiring passion for nature.

San Diego Zoo Global is a not-for-profit organization that operates the San Diego Zoo, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, the San Diego Zoo Institute for Conservation Research, and the San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy. The Zoo was founded on October 2, 1916, by Harry M. Wegeforth, M.D.

The 100-acre Zoo is a not-for-profit wildlife sanctuary home to more than 3,500 rare and endangered animals representing more than 650 species and subspecies, and a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants. It is located just north of downtown San Diego in Balboa Park.

All income in the park will be used for the park operation and species conservation research!

We generate, share, and apply scientific knowledge vital to the conservation of animals, plants, and habitats worldwide. We help shape the vision of San Diego Zoo Global to lead the fight against extinction. At the Institute for Conservation Research, we are dedicated to saving plant and animal species worldwide. We focus on below research areas: Conservation Genetics, Reproductive Sciences, Population Sustainability, Disease Investigations, Plant Conservation.

Wildlife conservation cannot succeed without the understanding and commitment of people. As wildlife and wild habitats are facing increasing pressures worldwide, organizations like San Diego Zoo Global must lead the way in wildlife conservation education. San Diego Zoo Global conducts science and conservation education programs at the Zoo, Safari Park, and Institute; in school classrooms; through our websites and broadcast programming; in teacher training and colleague exchanges; and through informal community outreach in countries where we are working on field projects. In all of these, we foster conservation curiosity, connection, and understanding through active engagement with wildlife and the natural world. We look forward to your Joining!

During this wintery celebration, guests can experience holiday-themed animal presentations and a wild wonderland of twinkling lights. Plus festive foods and activities.

The Zoo will close at 5 p.m. on December 24; open on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day until 8 p.m.

We now need 50 volunteers to support our charity dinner. If you are interested in what we do, or if you are also a member of the Animal Protection Association, don't hesitate to join us. On the 23rd, we will have a training and task assignment. At the same time, all volunteers will receive a free ticket for your next visit.
