Scholar's Bowl Team

The Scholar's Bowl Team swept the WaRu tournament in Topeka last week. The Varsity team was comprised of Devereaux Knight, Luke Chen, Lauren Koptas, Wazeen Hoq, Eddie Mu and Quinten Schafer. Congratulations, Scholars Bowl!

Kansas Eco-Meet Regionals

BVN had students do very well at last week's Kansas Eco-Meet Regional competition in Olathe. These folks worked very hard and competed after less than two weeks of preparation time for a competition that students typically get two months to prepare. Let's give a round of applause to these students for their impressive finishes.

Unified Bowling Team

Our Unified Bowling Season is coming to an end and we are excited to share a few highlights! On November 2, Calvin Albert's team came in first again with a score of 955 with second place coming in at 777. Nicholas Saadat's team came in second. Mary Burke had 2 strikes in a row! Josiah VanWyne and Hogan Mills had multiple strikes and some great spares!

We were missing John Gibson and Joe Turke on November 2, but they had a great season. The BVN Unified Team was made up of our 7 athletes and 14 peers. The peers were amazing and are listed below. Let's give a round of applause to these great student-athletes!

Rapid COVID Tests

Nurse Amanda Collichio now has district-supplied rapid COVID tests. She does not administer these tests, but can distribute them to staff and students with parent consent.

Did your student forget to take a daily morning medication before leaving for school?

If your student ever forgets to take a daily morning medication before coming to school, the parent may bring the medication to the school’s front office and the parent may dispense and give the student the medication. If the nurse is to give the medication, it must be in the original prescription pill bottle accompanied by the signed physician’s medical order; click on this link for the form: Authorization For Medication/Procedure to be Administered At School .

• The deadline to request a schedule change for Fall 2022 has passed. Students must stay in their class and take a grade .
• NEW THIS YEAR: 2nd semester changes will only be accepted December 7-9. There will be no schedule change window in January. Forms will be available in Student Services starting December 5th. Exceptions will be made for level changes and drops to a Study Hall.
• During the 1st two weeks of November, Counselors are visiting with all 9-11th grade classes for a positive mental health/suicide prevention lesson. We know this topic is challenging for some, particularly those with personal experience with this. California Polytechnic-Pomona College of Engineering is excited to start a new cohort of Femineers this 2022-2023 academic year. The Femineer Program was created to empower K-12 female students to develop the skills and confidence needed to pursue majors and careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fields. It has expanded to include other under-represented individuals in these fields. BVN Musical, UrineTown

Auditions will be Nov 16-17 in the PAC from 3:00 - 5:30 p.m. This show is the winner of three Tony Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, two Lucille Lortel Awards and two Obie Awards, Urinetown is a hilarious musical satire of the legal system, capitalism, social irresponsibility, populism, environmental collapse, privatization of natural resources, bureaucracy, municipal politics, and musical theatre itself! Hilariously funny and touchingly honest, Urinetown provides a fresh perspective on one of America's greatest art forms.

In a Gotham-like city, a terrible water shortage, caused by a 20-year drought, has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity's most basic needs. Amid the people, a hero decides that he's had enough and plans a revolution to lead them all to freedom!

National Honor Society Info for 2022-23 School Year

Mandatory induction practice is Monday, November 7, at 7:00 a.m. and the mandatory Induction Ceremony is Monday, November 7, at 6:30 p.m. The practice and ceremony are both in the BVN PAC. Math Competitions

Inviting all interested in participating in math competitions: Mathleague has a series of high school online math contests. Top-scoring students in qualifying rounds are invited to compete in the State Championship contest. You need to register and pay for yourself and take the test online. If you are interested, please register online at: https://mathleague.org/hs.php . Upcoming online dates are November 12, 20, December 10 and 18. There are other dates in the new year. FCA Meetings

Have unwanted school supplies? Please donate to Scraps KC! Blue Valley North is partnering with www.ScrapsKC.org to collect used or new school supplies. The items needed are listed above. Please ask your student to drop off items in the large white bin outside the library or the small buckets in the main office & student services offices. The first pickup will be Tuesday, December 13. If you have questions, please email Sarah King, in the Student Services Office, at sking@bluevalleyk12.org .Thank you!

We need your help. Please remind your students that they may not leave BVN during the school day to go out for lunch or go home and return a few minutes later. For your student's protection, Blue Valley North has a closed lunch policy. This is to keep our students safe, and it allows us to know where they are during the school day.

Secondly, parents are stopping by Blue Valley North to pick up their students early for appointments without notice. With 1600 students, we do not want to interrupt teaching, so we do not call into classrooms. If you plan, we can have your student waiting for you, instead of you waiting on your student.

If your student has an appointment during the school day, send a note with your student that morning and ask them to drop it off in the attendance office to Rita Mouber on their way into school. Or you can call the attendance office directly, 913-239-3001, with a minimum of two hours’ notice. Please provide:

Requirements for parents to schedule an early release for your student:

• Student’s first and last name
• Student ID number
• Reason for absence
• Date and time leaving and returning if applicable
• Your full name
• Your cell phone#
• Your signature

Procedure for students to be released early from class for appointments:

• An attendance pass will be delivered to your student’s teacher to release them at the time designated by their parent.
• Your student is required to sign out at the attendance office before they leave.
• For family emergencies, call the attendance office directly at (913) 239-3001.

With these details, we can have your student ready in the office waiting for you. The attendance office is eager to help you and if you plan, you won’t need to come to the door, just drive up and pick up!

In addition, if your student will be out ALL DAY due to illness, a college visit, etc., please enter the absence in ParentVue attendance tab or email attendanceBVN@bluevalleyk12.org . Please provide the same information listed above.

Historic Boston and Salem Trip - May 2023 (update)

ParentVUE URL updated -- Action Needed

Over the summer the URL for ParentVUE changed. Click here for the new URL: ParentVUE

Parents will need to have the new URL or they won’t be able to login to ParentVUE or request a password reset. The Blue Valley School District website and the BVN website have both been updated with the new URL so the parents can access the link from Parent>ParentVUE.

In addition, this also impacts the ParentVUE app. Parents will need to update their device to the correct link.

Student Digital ID Cards

Students have a new digital student ID card on their phones. If you paid for a Student Activity Pass, it should say that on the ID and students will show this to get into games. They can save their ID on their home page on an iPhone, or it can be saved as a favorite page on an android phone. If students were absent on Picture Day or if they have any trouble loading the ID, they can come to Student Services for help.

Family Activity Passes

All Family Activity Passes and Adult Individual Passes have been distributed. If you paid for your Family Activity Pass by the end of the day on September 13 but haven't received it yet, the cards were sent home with your student. If you purchase a pass after September 13, you need to contact Lori Freeman, BVN Bookkeeper, to obtain your cards.

Boys' Swimming and Diving Team (new)

All boys interested in going out for the Boys' Swim & Dive Team, there will be a Parent-Athlete Informational Meeting at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8th, in the BVN Library. Come meet the coaches and find out what our team is all about! In the meantime, please email chrissywichman@me.com to be added to the TeamSnap communication list. Practices will begin on Monday, November 14th, and you must submit physicals and all athletic participation forms online by Friday, November 11th, to be eligible.

Boys Basketball Tryout Meeting

• All boys interested in trying out for basketball that missed the October 20 meeting need to see Coach Phifer, BVN Head Basketball Coach and P.E. Teacher.
• Online physicals and athletic participation paperwork is due by Friday, Nov. 11.
• Tryouts will start on Monday, November 14.

Student-Athletes Action Needed for 2022-2023

Starting July 1st, the Blue Valley School District is moving to an online format to submit all paperwork, including a new physical completed, signed and dated May 1, 2022 or after, by a physician. This paperwork is required for students involved in athletics and activities at the high school and middle school levels. Winter Sports start on November 14

Is your student participating in a Winter Sport: Boys' Basketball, Girls' Basketball, Boys' Swim and Dive, Bowling or Wrestling? Physicals and all completed athletic paperwork must be completed and uploaded by Friday, November 11. Get your students' physicals scheduled now! If your student participated in a 2022 fall sport, their physical and paperwork is already on file. Thank you!

The Graduation date for the Class of 2023 has been announced. Put Saturday, May 20 on your calendars! Commencement will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the District Activity Center (DAC) at 135th & Switzer.
