As always, MiSHCA is committed to continuous learning with the hopes of sharing knowledge and skills with others. At our last MiSHCA meeting in September, we had the opportunity to network and learn from each other as we explored different content and topics to support us in our work.
One highlight from the meeting was our opportunity to participate in the Michigan Organization on Adolescent Sexual Health's (MOASH) Sexual Violence Prevention Training of Facilitators. We are eager to share the new information we learned and are grateful for the powerful and relevant message.

"Save Our Students" legislation
LANSING, Mich. — Michigan public schools that issue identification cards to students in grades six through 12 will be required to add a suicide prevention hotline number. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed the law on Thursday October 15, 2020. The “Save Our Students” legislation aims to fight Michigan’s steadily growing youth suicide rate.
The new law also requires the state health department to provide mental health and suicide information to schools if they request it.

- InPACT@Home is a free, home-based program that enables Michigan K-12 students to engage in health-enhancing physical activity during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond.
- School closures eliminated structured opportunities for kids to engage in physical activity (physical education, sports, etc.). We also know that some of our kids lack safe spaces to exercise or play sports in their neighborhood. InPACT@Home is a way to increase kids’ access to physical activity programming safely in their home.
- InPACT@Home aims to provide 20 minutes of home-based physical activity every day to K-12 students across the state of Michigan.
