Parking Spot Painting
If you've been to the school, we are sure you've noticed the beautiful parking spots that are painted! Our student government did a great job planning this fundraiser. Students paid $20 each to own their spot then had three days to come paint their spot. This money will be used towards various activities/projects at the school. Awesome job Shawnee students! College/Career/Military Visit Request Form
Students must take the following steps in order to make a college/career/military visitation on school days:
1. Arrange the visit with the college
2. Complete this form.
3. Wait for confirmation/approval from guidance (through school email).
4. Confer with each teacher prior to the visit in order to arrange for make up work.
5.Bring a paper or email confirmation of the visit from the college to school counselor.
Advice for Seniors
- Keep your grades up. Strong grades/GPA during the first semester is critical.
- Be mindful of deadlines.
- Plan ahead to get the best recommendation letter.
- If you need a recommendation from a teacher for college, scholarship, or a job, your first step is to ask the teacher if he/she is able to write you a recommendation letter.
- Make sure to tell the teacher the deadline and give the teacher AT LEAST two weeks to write the letter.
- You also need to let the teacher know how to submit the letter (common app, sent to guidance to be mailed with transcript, etc.).
- Make as many memories as you can! This year will fly by.

MENTAL HEALTH & RESOURCES
A Note From Our Mental Health Coordinator
September is Suicide Prevention Month. The most recent data from the CDC(2020) shows that suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 10-14, and 3rd leading cause of death for ages 15-19.
This is an incredible self-guided resource, and you can click "Complete Step" on each of the five steps to better understand them. Knowing how to identify warning signs and take action does not mean that you are responsible for mental health intervention. The knowledge just makes you better equipped to identify the warning signs, know how to respond, and know how to find the appropriate help. Since we interact with these students for a large portion of their days during the school year, it is crucial that we understand the importance of this rising issue.
I am always available! I am here because I care about these students, their well-being, and their futures.
#bethe1to Ask, Keep Them Safe, Be There, Help Them Connect, and Stay Connected.
