Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Top Lesson Stars:

Students receive lesson stars where a teacher feels a student has made an excellent contribution in their lesson. Some students receive multiple lesson stars across the week, below are the students who have received the most stars for each year group this week:

Year 7:

Year 8:

Subject Highlights:

Each week will focus on two departments within the school and share their nominations with you. This week it is Drama and Music.

Mr Harragan would like to nominate the following students for their commitment to music and drama, representing our departments in the recent year 6 open evenings. They were jamming away as a rock band, encouraging our visitors to play on our instruments or getting involved with our dramatic trestle masks. Thank you very much to the following:

Filip, Peter, Addison, Emily, James, Nicola S, Marika, Tarak, Antony, Ayren, Miller T, Alex B, Courney, Amelia, Ellie-Leigh, Kade, Hollie, Ruby H, Aleksandra, Kayden, Mia, Sophie G, Marianna and Kailyn.

Miss Patrick has made the following nominations:

Year 7 students Sofia 7CO, Hannah 7TA, Rehan 7SW, Jakub 7TE, and Lucas 7CA for a brilliant start to their music lessons in this 1st term, keep it up!

Year 8 students Lilitta and Ashton for their fantastic effort and achievements in their music topic of learning the ukulele, very well done!

Year 9 students Edgars 9CO and Emily 9TE for fantastic pieces of work in their film music unit.

Finally Layla 9CA for teaching herself keyboard and recording her very own composition live!

Mr Adedoyin would like to nominate Svetlana 7CO, Max 7CO, Ronan 9TA, Veronika 11TE, Shae 11TE and Toby 11SW for brilliant effort in their drama lessons, whether it was the Year 7s exploring the history of Drama or Year 11s studying for their final exam and piece of coursework.

Curriculum Focus:

Each week we will share with you what our Year 7, 8 and 9 students are learning in our focus departments this term, below you will find the topics for History with some questions you can ask your child about the topics:

Year 7 - The Battle of Hasting:

This topic introduces students to the starting point of History at secondary school which is the Medieval time period. We start by drawing connections with their learning in primary schools about the Roman time period and then move chronologically through to the Medieval time period. We look at the different claims to the English throne and how that led to several battles in particular the Battle of Hastings.

Questions:

1. When was the Battle of Hastings?

2. Why was there a need for new King of England?

3. What was life like in Medieval England?

Year 8 - The Glorious Revolution:

This term focuses on the change from the Elizabethan time period to the Stuart time period. This looks at the religious conflicts that were happened which led to the later revolution. This also looks at the political and social changes that started to cause conflict during the time period. In particular the students have looked at two monarchs King Charles I and King James II.

Questions:

1. When was the Glorious Revolution?

2. What does the term Revolution mean?

3. Who were the monarchs during the time period?

Year 9 - First World War:

This term, year 9 students have been exploring the First World War. They have begun by looking at the changes implemented during the 21st century. Then students started to explore the short term and long-term causes of WWI. Students have then explored the new technologies that were developed during the war in particular weapons and the rights of women during the time period.

Questions:

1. What were the causes of World War I?

2. What were the main events of World War I?

3. What changes occurred during World War I?

Spirit of Corby Award:

Parent Governor Election

We would like to share with you that we have elected two new parent governors, Karen Rust and Stephen Griffiths-Murru. We are sure you will join us in congratulating Karen and Stephen and we look forward to working with them.
