August 2017
President's message
Hello NCBCC Members!
I hope you have all been enjoying your summer—I know I have!
For those of you who participated in the June herding trial—thank you! From all accounts we here it was a great event. A big thank you to David Fruehwald, Lynne Corn, Lucy Campbell and everyone else who worked hard to put on the event.
Like Wine?
Roger has organized a winery outing on September 30th (rain date October 1st) at 8Chains North Winery in Waterford, VA. Please see the announcement in this newsletter for more details.
Ready for Agility?
NCBCC’s two day agility trials will be here before you know it! The trials will be held on October 28-29, 2017 in Frederick, MD at the Frederick Indoor Sports Center. Entries open on August 28th, with preference given to Beardie entries. Entries for other breeds will open on September 5th and entries will close on October 14th. You can see the premium list here.
We will also hold a club meeting at the agility trial to put forth the proposed slate of NCBCC officers and board members. We hope you can attend!
Speaking of a Proposed Slate…
It’s about that time to start thinking about our Nominating Committee. If you’re interested in being a part of the committee please email Laura at ncbccpresident@gmail.com.
In November we’ll have our Annual Meeting and Beardie Bounce on the weekend of the 18th-19th. Time and location to be determined.
Once again in December we will participate in the Alexandria Scottish Walk and Festival on the 2nd.

Calling All Senior Beardies!
Senior beardies and their families are invited to Lynne Corn’s house to have their own bounce! (Glenna & Oboe will wait inside so as not to stress aging bones of visitors.) It will be just a fun chance to play and romp in a safe, well-fenced environment. And it is so much fun to watch senior beardies throw off the years and have a good time. Here are the details:
• Date: Sept. 16 (rain date Sept. 17; a message will be sent to those accepting if event is changed)
• Time: 1:00-4:00
• Place: Lynne Corn’s house (see above address)
• Bring a side dish, salad, or dessert. And your older beardies!
When you respond please send an email to Lynne (brynacap@verizon.net) with (1) how many humans; (2) how many beardies; (3) what you are bringing. If you have younger beardies that cannot be left at home for a long time, they may come along, but initially please crate them or leave them in the car so that senior beardies can play without being knocked over by young whippersnappers for at least an hour and a half. After the seniors have played and, if needs be, moved to a quiet spot to rest, younger beardies will be allowed free rein.
NOTE: RSVP by the evening of Sept. 13! Lynne has to cook (probably smoke a brisket all day 9/15) and get stuff like wine, beer, and other beverages. Maybe make some of her famous Beardie Coolers too if the weather is right. So, if there aren’t at least 5 positive responses by 9/13, the event will be cancelled. Beardies, especially you seniors, bark at your humans all day Tuesday and Wednesday that week to be sure they respond!

Annual NCBCC Agility trial
We're having a number of classes this year including offering the elusive premier courses.
We've been very lucky to have lots of members turn up to help in previous years. In fact, there were comments from participants in 2016 about how great it was to see all the club members out (even if they didn't do agility) to help at the trial. We really can't do it without you all!. You can volunteer for any portion of either day. Whether you have some, none, or a ton of experience, we'd be grateful for your help.
You can find information on the event on our website, http://www.ncbcc.net/calendar/agility/
