Curtis Chronicles
August 30, 2021
Hello from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
We are so proud to have finished up the first three weeks of school. The kids have settled in and are doing great. We are enjoying getting to know all our new students! We wanted to let you know we are working very hard to get students through our lunch lines with time to eat their lunches. We know students are sharing that some days they only have 5-10 minutes to eat because the lines are long. Unfortunately, we are short staffed in our kitchens and only have 3 of our 5 lines open. Our cafeteria and administrative staff are working as quickly as we can to move kids through the lines. We are writing passes to class for students so they can finish eating their food. If anyone has some time to volunteer or work in the kitchens, we would love the help. Please apply online from the district website.
We encourage kids to wear spirit gear on Fridays to build our school community. They can wear something that goes with our theme this year, Space Jam, or anything with Curtis or Curtis colors on it or Allen or Allen colors. It’s great to see a sea of spirit each week.
We have a late bus for students who stay after school for tutoring or clubs. The late bus picks up at 4:25 p.m. in the front of the school and takes students to the nearest elementary campus, or for those neighborhoods that are not close to an elementary campus into the neighborhood. Students must be with a teacher and receive a pass to ride the late bus. We want to accommodate students who need to stay after for extra help and our transportation supports us in doing that. If you have questions about the late bus, please contact your child’s teacher.
Thank you for your continued support!

What’s up in Tracks?
In Tracks this month, students are being equipped with skills for success! Aside from navigating technology features including Canvas, Skyward, and their Google apps, they are also implementing strategies to improve their academic and social emotional success. This includes using their agendas, setting goals, and developing successful habits. They are participating in activities geared towards building our class and school community through academic privilege time, team building activities, and Fun Fridays. Additionally, students are learning about themselves and exploring opportunities to get involved in clubs at CMS!
