Harris Hill Elementary 65th Anniversary Welcome Assembly celebrated on September 26, 2019
Mrs. Aldrich Welcomes Alumni, Faculty, Students and Friends to the 65th Anniversary!
Reaction to the $10,000 Surprise Gift Announcement!
Harris Hill alumni, faculty, staff, students, grandparents, friends, Board members, PTO leadership and administrative leaders came together on September 26, 2019, to recognize the traditions, the learning, the collaboration and the strength of Harris Hill School. We celebrated the generations of intelligent, caring and strong citizens – true Harris Hill HEROES - which we have sent out to grow, learn and flourish in their future schools, their community, in their professions and in the world!
We started with a procession of alumni and friends representing the decades of our history. We also told a story of the rich history of the school over the generations through presentations by Pastor Vicki from St. Paul's Church, Mrs. Corrie, past principal of HH, and a remarkable group of fifth grade leaders. The student presenters included: Brenna McLean, Brent Sheedy, Gabby Walczak, Lilliana Campbell, Tatiana Tutko, Evan Walter and Robert Hammann. Also, chosen to lead the processional with decade signs were: Preston Aranyosi, Sufian Sarvaiya, Siena Sproull, Michael Bussman, Avery Ast, John Cahalan, Ellyce Panus
As is tradition, we welcomed new and visiting members to our school as we began a new school year – our 65th year! We asked the audience to listen, to imagine and to think about our school’s history and a common thread of working TOGETHER to become even smarter, even stronger and to make a difference in our world.
$10,000 Donation to Harris Hill Elementary School from Burlington Stores
Representatives from Burlington Stores, Inc. were present for a surprise announcement to the entire school community. They came to present a $10,000 check to Principal Margaret Aldrich during Harris Elementary School’s 65th Anniversary Opening Assembly, which took place on Thursday, September 26, at 8:45 a.m. at the school.
A representative from AdoptAClassroom.org contacted school administrators and helped to secure the donation for Harris Hill Elementary, which will provide $10,000 in new supplies for teacher classrooms.
According to Principal Aldrich, the teachers will use the funds on classroom items which will enhance hands-on and student engagement opportunities in classrooms.
“On behalf of the Clarence School District and Harris Hill Elementary School’s faculty, staff and students, I would like to thank Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org for adopting our entire school,” said Mrs. Aldrich. “Our teachers look forward to using the funds to enhance learning in our school and in their classrooms. We are thankful for the support we received from Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org.”
Scouting Projects Making an Impact at Harris Hill
Project 2 - Girl Scout Silver Award Project: In conjunction with the HH Courtyard Improvements, HH Alumni and Girl Scouts Erica Guenther, Emma Mowry and Emma Weglarski are pictured with one of three new bird houses they constructed for the school. They decided on the project to give back to their community and more specifically, to their former elementary school.
Project 3 - Girl Scouts, now alumni from HH, Amelia Zambito, Madeline Heckman, Morgan Bolis, Naomi Hunter, Sophia Pula and Tegan Keough, identified a Friendship Bench project that they wanted to design and construct for placement near the HH playground. The picnic table (Friendship Bench) is a safe place for students to gather and play board games and to get to know each other. Project 4 - HH alumni & Girl Scouts, Mykayla Simmons, Emily Prisinzano and Maddy Ferriter from Troop 30148, worked on two projects to complete their Silver Award recognition. The first was assistance with the first Earth Day Program last April which was a huge success on the grounds of HH. The second part of the project was the construction of four STEAM Lab Ramps and Plane Experimentation Bags for HH students and teachers!
We also thank the Clarence Buildings & Grounds Department and staff who helped make these projects possible. Thank you to the Scouts and family members who continuing to give back to Harris Hill and making it such a special place for students to learn and grow. We cannot thank you enough!!
