Martin School Family Update
August 31, 2023
Our First Week of School!
Dear Martin Families and Caregivers,
What a great start to the school year! It's been wonderful seeing the children, again! These past 2 days, the children have been getting to know each other and have started to learn classroom routines. You'll likely notice your children are exhausted by the end of the day. Early bedtimes these first weeks of school may serve them well!
And... Next week promises to be a good one! We’ll start passing out golden tickets again and will have our first round of Golden Ticket winners by the end of next week! Students earn Golden Tickets when they are caught making good choices. This may include walking quietly in the hallway, helping other students, completing assignments with care, and more! A Golden Ticket Winner is selected from each class every week! Winners may choose from a variety of prizes which, in the past, have ranged from stuffed animals to toy cars. Golden Ticket prizes are a favorite at Martin School!
Enjoy the long weekend! We'll see you on Tuesday, September 5th!

Under Construction: New Walker Dismissal Procedure in the Works!
We are in the process of improving our walker procedure at Martin School. For students who meet an adult outside of the gym, we've made a change. We're going to start having students exit doors by their last names. Students with the last names, A-L will be going out the gym door near the "rock"/Nature Trail area. Students with last names M-Z will be going out the usual walker door. We hope that this procedure will result in a more organized and methodical egress.
Kindergarten families should plan on picking up their Kindergarten children from teachers as they have been these last two days of school. If a Kindergarten child has a sibling who goes to Martin, please wait at the appropriate door (A-L or M-Z) after connecting with your Kindergartner.
Students in grades 1-5 will exit with their siblings. We're intending on dismissing groups of students at a time.
For bike riders or students who have permission to walk home without an adult accompanying them, they will still be able to do so. At this time, they will be exiting from the doors near the Peace Garden.
We will call down walker students to the gym at 2:50pm to get them ready for the new procedure. If you are not at Martin that early, that's okay. As always, your child will be under our care until you arrive.
On Thursday, we will start having children come to the gym at 3:00pm to organize for walker dismissal, the usual time walkers are dismissed.
As with any new procedure, we ask for your patience and understanding as we develop this new, and hopefully, improved routine. There will undoubtedly be some bumps, but we hope the result will be smooth sailing. As always, thank you for your support. All that we do, we do with your children in mind.

The Martin School Association (MSA)
Our Martin School Association is our school's PTO. Please consider volunteering to help coordinate enrichment events for our students, to volunteer in the library, to become a Room Parent, to be a member of our Book Fair Committee, and more! We'd love to have you be an active member of our Martin School Team!
The MSA's first general meeting for all families is scheduled for Wednesday September 6 at 7pm in the Martin Library and online! A Google link will be sent out to all Martin families the day of the meeting. Learn more about ways you can volunteer, come to an MSA meeting, or email the MSA at martinschoolassociation@gmail.com
Thank you!
The MSA's Pumpkin Stroll
From the Desk of the MSA: Volunteer Opportunity! Be a Room Parent!
The duties are simple:
1. Communicate with the teachers.2. Pass along information to the parents.
3. Organize classroom donations for and attend 2 classroom parties, one in December and one in June.
It is strongly suggested that at least one Room Parent per class attend monthly MSA meetings, as a lot of the information that you will be asked to share will be discussed at these meetings. Please be prepared to organize and attend the two approved parties – holiday and end of year - as well as help out (help obtain donations) during the Teacher Appreciation luncheon.
Please be aware that you need to be CORI approved for this job. A CORI must be completed every two years to volunteer in the school. We can help with this process. Also, Martin School has a NO sibling rule which means that when volunteering in the class you are not able to bring younger siblings/children with you. While we understand that this may make it more challenging for parents with little ones (and future Martin students!) to volunteer, please understand we do this for safety reasons.
Please complete the information sent home if you would like the opportunity to serve as a Room Parent. Please have your form(s) in by Friday September 8. If you need another form, you can print one from the E-Pack or ask for another copy from the office.
Parties, Play Dates, and the MSA's Martin School Directory
If you've ever organized a play date or birthday party, you know how important email addresses and cell phone numbers are. To help Martin families connect with other Martin families, our MSA puts together a school directory each year. Information collected for the directory includes student/parent names, emails, phone numbers, etc. You can choose to submit as much or as little information as you would like. Participation in the directory is optional, but it is a wonderful tool for families to have. Additionally, the directory is password protected.
Please click here for the link to submit your information today! Once the information has been collected, the MSA will send out the finished product for you to start using immediately!
Bus Passes
Bus passes will be distributed to students before September 19. Starting September 19, students will need a bus pass to ride the bus.
