Dear Team Zachry Families,

Our students and staff have been trained in our Safety Training for an Active Threat (Run, Hide, Fight). and we have also reviews Fire, bad weather, evacuation and modified lock down drills (everyone is inside the building, perimeters secured and school goes on as normal). Next week we will do an announced Active Threat Drill where we will only practice "HIDE" - this will be a lockdown drill. Safety is always our first concern each day. I have left up the letter about the training as the link for the video shown to your students is linked in the letter. As always please call if you have any questions.

Please remind your students to plugged in their chromebook an charged each night and brought to school EVERY day. Students use these every day.

Also please remind your students to put their phones and headphones/earbuds in their backpacks when not before school, at lunch or asked to use in a classroom. We have a lot of students leaving items and then frantically trying to remember where they left them - kept in the backpack is the best place for their safety.

Parent Connect offers an opportunity to connect with a community of parents and learn about how to relate to youth in relevant and practical ways. This fall, three free workshops are being offered. "HR Mom" on November 16, both at Grace Point Church at 7 p.m.. On October 19, "Parenting in the Cyberworld" will be hosted at the Northside Activity Center at 7 p.m.. Zachry Teachers Sponsor a variety of clubs and organizations that are open to all students.

Please look at the time the club meets, check our community calendar for meeting days and students may join as many clubs as families can make arrangements for early arrival or pick up after the meetings. We do not have bus service after the meetings. Students are expected to be picked up at the end of the meetings.

New Club

Journalism Club: Purpose: We will be working on the school newspaper and learning about video broadcasting. Members will be assigned topics or articles to cover and to be published in the school newspaper. Please bring your chromebooks. Make sure you have a ride home at 5pm. Meets in Portable 3 4-5 pm on Wednesdays. Sponsor: Annette Graham.

Garden Club: Purpose: We will set up a Monarch Waystation and learn about pollinators and their importance to the environment. We will grow vegetables and learn about healthy food options. We will study plant life cycles as we grow plants from seeds. Meets Tuesdays, 4-5:15 pm in B114. Sponsors: Sara Key, Troy Solis, Medha Hegde

eSports Club: Purpose: to compete against other schools with the use of the district given Nintendo Switch. Meets Thursdays 4-5 pm in our Library. Sponsors: Leslie Ortiz and Timothy Soriano.

Calligraphy Club: Students will be able to write with legible and artistic letters while learning about different current and historical forms of calligraphic writing. Meets Tuesdays 4-5 pm in Portable 3. Sponsor: Annette Graham.

ZSTEM : Purpose - To engage MS girls to STEM activities that they may not experience in the classroom. Meets Wednesdays 4-5 pm in D209. Sponsors: Jennifer Meggett and Britni Gordon.

Art Squad: Purpose: Fall leaves and pumpkins, Halloween pastel drawings, Ceramic mugs, symmetrical 3D snowflakes, Valentines cards, Clover paintings, Spring flower collages, Mother's Day 3D cards. Meets specific Wednesdays - check community calendar. 3:55-4:55 in D121. Sponsors: Rachael Acosta, Erik Sanchez, and Michael Stoltz.

Lego Robotics Club: Purpose: Uses science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to students through fun, exciting hands-on learning using Legos. Meets Tuesdays 4-5 pm in E116. Sponsors, Roland Pola and Evan Lindsey.

Anime/KPOP Club: Purpose: Examine Japanese and Korean culture through animation, art, dance, and food. Meets select Wednesdays - check community calendar for dates and times in D115. Sponsors: Stephanie Cabrera, Magdalena Ontiveros and Leslie Ortiz.

Science Podcasting Club: Purpose: Students will be able to discuss topics talked learned in class and will be able to apply these concepts to real world applications. Meets 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month 4-5 PM in G104. Sponsor: April Rodriguez.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes:

student led club. Monitors: Crystal Williams and David Arellano. Meets location either in Coach Williams or Coach Arellano's rooms 7:45-8:30 am. check community calendar for meeting dates.

Updating the Home Access Center is Data Validation for the 22-23 school year and needs to be completed each year for student safety. New students that registered on or after March 7, 2022 will not need to complete this process as they have recently registered their students.
