7th Grade Camp Duncan Field Trip
The students had beautiful weather and enjoyed boating, teams course, rope games, a star lab, a climbing wall and s'mores all while working together encouraging and supporting their classmates and building relationships with their teachers. The team day allowed each student to "Step Into 7th Grade" and set a goal, discuss what they would do to make this year a great one and how they can work together to create a awesome school environment. The teachers and students are looking forward to a great year and our second trip to Camp Duncan in the spring.
Curriculum Corner
Hello Oak Grove Community,
As the year gets up and running, your calendars will fill up quick. If you are a parent of an 8th grader, please remember to reserve November 7th, 2015. LHS will be administering the PSAT to all incoming freshman in order to help determine class placement for the 2016-17 school year. In addition to the PSAT results, the STAR winter assessment, the placement tests given at OGS, and teacher recommendations will play a role in the final placement recommendation for freshman class schedules.
Specifically, parents have asked about HS math placement. In order to provide some clarity on our vertical alignment, a document has been created to show the progression between our on-grade level program, our Talented And Gifted program, and the connection to Libertyville High School. By altering a few components of the 8th grade math curriculum, we are able to offer all OGS students four choices of mathematics at the high school. While most students will take grade 8 algebra and then the high school’s version of Algebra I, there are a few exceptions to the rule and OGS administration wants to ensure that those few students have that option to enter directly into Geometry. This document was shared with parents who attended 6th, 7th, and 8th grade curriculum nights and was approved at the August 2015 board meeting.
There are also have been a few questions about our resources versus our curriculum. We are still utilizing the Bridges resources for students in grades K-5 math and College Preparatory Mathematics for grades 6-8 and Algebra I. Our curriculum, is aligned to the IL learning standards and occasionally deviates from our primary resource. If you have any questions about our math sequence, please contact one of our administrators.
