Winter Storm Warning Winter Storm Warning

Jan. 11, 2023

Dear Woodland Families,

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are closely monitoring the next round of winter weather coming our way. If possible, we plan to keep school open on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024.

Depending on how the forecast looks tonight, and what actual conditions look like in the morning, we may consider an Early Dismissal Schedule. This would allow staff and students to benefit from what is considered a full day of learning, and still be home safely before the worst of the weather hits this area. There is also the possibility that conditions will not allow for safe travel on Friday, and we may need to utilize a snow day/emergency closure.

Here is what we know:

  • An eLearning Day will NOT be used.
  • All after school events and extra curricular activities will be canceled on Friday.
  • The district is closed on Monday, Jan. 15 in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

I know that other area school districts are already sending notifications about their status for tomorrow, so I wanted to share what we know so far. Please plan for either scenario and I will send a confirmation once a decision is made. Thank you for your patience!

As always, weather is unpredictable and conditions may vary, so Parents/Guardians are urged to use your best judgment in determining if your child should attend school.

Sincerely,

Dr. Robert Machak, Superintendent

Woodland D50

Winter weather in northern Illinois can be unpredictable, and conditions can go from mild to harsh within a few short hours. It is important that we prepare in advance so that we are ready when winter weather strikes.
