SEMESTER 2 SCHEDULING INFORMATION
CIMS Families -
It was so awesome to see our students back in their virtual Zoom classes last week! Students and staff kicked off Semester 2 with a successful week of virtual learning. Please review the reminders below related to students' schedules for Semester 2.
5th grade learners who were in person before Thanksgiving have Zoom virtual classes every weekday in the coming week.
- 5th graders who were previously in person learners will have Zoom classes every weekday through January 15th; they will return to school IN PERSON on Tuesday, January 19th. (Monday, January 18th there is no school due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
- During virtual learning, attendance will be taken by teachers based on student participation in Zoom classes.
6th grade hybrid learners (who previously attended school every other day in person), and ALL students in grades 7 & 8 will attend Zoom virtual classes on MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, & FRIDAY. TUESDAY & THURSDAY will be APPLICATION DAYS.
- Students in grades 6 - 12 will remain 100% VIRTUAL until at least Friday, February 12th with a tentative IN-PERSON HYBRID return on Wednesday, February 17th.
- During virtual learning, attendance will be taken by teachers based on student participation in Zoom classes.
- Tuesday, February 16th is a scheduled district eLearning day.
- Families who have students who are 100% virtual will continue that way on February 17th, unless you request a learning environment change (see below).
- Families with students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will have the option to request that their student remain VIRTUAL or return IN PERSON / HYBRID (every other day in person) for the remainder of the school year. You only need to fill out the form if you are requesting a change to your child's learning environment. The request window for 6-8 students will open on Friday, January 15th and close on Friday, January 29th at 4 PM. This will be the last request window of this school year to make adjustments to your child's learning environment.
- NOTE: Tuesday and Thursday application days - all teachers will have office hours during which students can visit with them via Zoom as needed. Teachers will share their office hours with students via Canvas and via email.
Students in Grades 5 & 6 who were already virtual before our schools closed in person instruction will maintain their Black/Gold schedule this semester; this is the same schedule they've been using all school year.
Questions related to scheduling can be directed to your child's grade-level counselor or grade-level administrator.
5TH GRADE FAMILIES: As we prepare for receiving students back to in-person instruction and transitioning other students to 100% virtual, you may see changes appear in your ParentVue (Synergy) and your student’s Canvas account. Some possible changes might be seeing a new teacher’s name appear on your student’s schedule or a new classroom dashboard tile in Canvas. Do not be alarmed by these changes. Once your student begins their new schedule on January 19th, you will see their accurate placement and correct teacher connections with Canvas and digital curriculum.
ATTENDANCE REMINDER: If your child cannot attend a virtual Zoom class, please make sure a parent/caregiver calls CIMS to report the student as absent. The virtual learning environment is different from in person learning for many reasons; however, we still expect a parent/caregiver to notify us of an absence. Student self-reporting of absence reasons is not considered appropriate or official; we must hear from parents/caregivers.
UPCOMING DATES TO NOTE:
- MONDAY, JANUARY 18 = No School (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day)
- MONDAY, FEBRUARY 15 = No School (Presidents' Day)
- TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 16 = District eLearning Day (ALL STUDENTS access learning materials virtually from home)
APPLICATION DAY DETAILS - TUESDAY/THURSDAY for ALL 7th/8th Graders and MOST 6th Graders
Learning Hubs
- For any families who received an invitation to in person learning hubs, please note that learning hubs will be held virtually this coming week via Zoom. Your students can check their email inbox on Tuesday AM and/or Thursday AM for teacher invitations. Learning Hubs will start in person on January 19th. These sessions are for specific students, by invitation only.
- Beginning this coming week, on Tuesday/Thursday afternoons from 2:30 - 4:00 PM, students can connect with teachers via Zoom for office hours. Teachers will also be inviting specific students to attend virtual small group sessions during those hours, as well. If your student receives an invitation, please encourage them to connect with their teacher virtually at the designated time - we hope to support students' efforts on Application Day to help them complete assignments, participate in personalized academic support as needed, and stay caught up with class work.
