Letter from our District regarding Covid-19
As we prepare to begin the 2021-22 school year on August 5, we wanted to update you regarding our system’s COVID-19 precautions and protocols.
Our new school year will begin much as we ended in May, 2021. We strongly encourage individuals to follow CDC guidance to “wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission” of COVID-19. While masks are strongly encouraged, but not mandated, in our schools, they are required to be worn by all travelers and drivers on school buses or any other form of school system public transportation, per an ongoing federal order.
Our schools will continue to follow ongoing COVID-19 guidance from state health officials including social distancing where practicable, recommending self health-checks for students and staff, continued cleaning and hygiene measures, and participation with the Georgia Department of Public Health to perform close contact investigations where needed.
One change to our protocols will be to allow parents, grandparents and others to return to our schools as visitors and volunteers. We ask that all school visitors follow CDC guidance regarding face masks, that all visitors perform voluntary health checks with the same criteria used to assess students and staff, and that if you show symptoms or have experienced other infectious risks, please do not visit a school.
While COVID-19 conditions have improved, the disease is still evident within our community and can pose risks for our staff and students. Also, as we experienced last year, local and state conditions can change unpredictably. Because of that, our school system may modify these and other health and safety protocols - in our system or at individual schools - if state guidance or local COVID-19 conditions change.
Although we all experienced many challenges last year with COVID-19, our schools were able to safely have face-to-face instruction while following CDC and local Georgia Department of Public Health guidelines. We appreciate your support as we start our new school year with the goal of continued safe and healthy operations. Thank you.
