Academic Focus Day - October 18th
Last year, we implemented a new quarterly "checkpoint" to help further support students academically with the creation of an Academic Focus Day. GPS Listening Sessions
You're Invited
Gering Public Schools Parents and Families,
Are you able to talk with your school officials about things that are important to you? If not, we’d love to know what’s getting in the way. If so, we’d like to know what’s working well so we can keep doing it.
Please join us for a listening session where the team from Meditation West will gather your feedback for the school board and administration about how you see the school interacting with the community. Pick the time that works best for you. Refreshments will be provided, and your children are welcome:
- Tuesday 10/17/23 | 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. | Mediation West, 615 S Beltline Hwy W, Scb
- Wednesday 10/18/23 | 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. | Lincoln Elementary, 1725 13th, Gering
The listening sessions will be held using the LivingRoom conversations model. Please plan for up to an hour-and-a-half. The LivingRoom Conversations agenda is printed below so you can get a better feel for how our time together will be spent.
These gatherings are a part of joint effort between Gering Public Schools, Mediation West, Panhandle Partnership, and national partners, the National Association for Community Mediation (NAFCM), LivingRoom Conversations, and the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School at George Mason University. The project is funded by the American Arbitration Association’s International Conflict and Dispute Resolution section at no cost to taxpayers.
Gering is one of five sites across the country that is working to improve trust between the school district and the community it serves and to help people have constructive conversations around education issues, solving problems together. The other sites are Prince Williams County, Virginia; Hamilton County, Ohio; Mount Vernon, Washington; Savannah, Georgia. The hope is that your feedback will help develop better relationships between schools and communities across the country as well as here at home.
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
