Great Things Are Happening at Haw River Elementary!
Week 5: Keeping the learning alive!
Our Lion Cub Leaders have been putting first things first to demonstrate understanding of their grade level content. We celebrated our wonderful custodial staff, Mr. Randy and Ms. Brenda for Custodian Appreciation Day. They do an amazing job of ensuring our campus remains clean and welcoming!
We saw so many exciting learning opportunities in classrooms this week. Our 4th graders took their learning off campus on our first field trip of the year to the Haw River Learning Celebration in Saxapahaw. Check out some of the photos below highlighting this week's incredible learning opportunities!
Moving into Week 6, we are excited to see the beautiful smiles of our students on picture day and more opportunities to learn, grow, and lead! Our students arriving at school on time, every day is so important. We do not want our students to miss out on these amazing learning opportunities we have in classrooms every day. Let's be proactive and put first things first to ensure our students get every minute of their learning time this week. We are going to have another phenomenal week of Learning, Leading, and Loving it!

Kindergarten
With prompting and support, define the role of the author and illustrator in a text.
With prompting and support, describe how the words and illustrations work together to tell a storyMath:
Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0 to 20, with 0 representing a count of no objects.
Science:
Compare the observable physical properties of different kinds of materials (clay, wood, cloth, paper, etc) from which objects are made and how they are used.
1st GRADE
Ask and answer questions to help determine or clarify the meaning of words and phrases in a text.
Math:
Count to 150, starting at any number less than 150
Understand that the two digits of a two-digit number represent amounts of tens and ones.
Unitize by making a ten from a collection of ten ones.
Model the numbers from 11 to 19 as composed of a ten and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones.
Social Studies:
Summarize reasons why people and countries trade goods and services.
Recognize the relationship between supply and demand.
2nd Grade
Ask and answer questions such as who, what, when, where, why and how to demonstrate understanding of key details in fiction and informational text.

• Unitize by making a hundred from a collection of ten tens.
• Demonstrate that the numbers 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 refer to one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine hundreds, with 0 tens and 0 ones.

LEADER IN ME AT HRE
Paradigms
As a Leader in Me School, we have 5 Core Paradigms that drive our decisions, behaviors, and results. A paradigm is simply the way we “see” things. These 5 Core Paradigms include:
• Everyone can be a leader.
• Everyone has genius.
• Change starts with me.
• Empower students to lead their own learning.
• Educators and families partner to develop the whole person.
These paradigms or “the way we see things” at our school drive our everyday interaction with not only your student, but ourselves too. A partnership with families supports our ability for students to lead their own educational journey—empowering them to be responsible, reflective, and active in their learning experiences.
The great news about paradigms is that they are also powerful at home! When you operate through these five paradigms in your own life, you are communicating your own value as well as encouraging greatness in your student.
Ways to engage your family in these paradigms can include:
