Use a combination of drawing, dictating, and writing to narrate a single
event or several loosely linked events, tell about the events in the order in
which they occurred, and provide a reaction to what happened.
Grade 1:
Math
We have begun a unit on identifying, decomposing and building numbers 11-19. We are introducing the concept that, for example, 14 is a group of 10 and 4 more. We are also learning to read the words eleven to nineteen. Please help with this at home. We are also introducing the number grid up to 120 and looking for patterns.
Finally, your child is expected to correctly print the numerals 1-30. Please reinforce correct formation at home.
E/LA
We continue work on Fundations. All parents received a packet on correct letter formation and pencil grip. Please be sure to hold your child to these expectations.
Science
We are finishing our Balance and Motion science kit with a unit on rollers.
Other:
Expect a lot of special projects and writing on seasonal topics -spiders, bats etc.
Happy Halloween!
Grade 2:
Math
Second graders are continuing to work on place value up to 1,000. They are also practicing skip counting on number lines. These activities could be supplemented at home with IXL.
E/LA
Students are trying out opinion writing on various topics of interest, such as favorite book and favorite candy.
They are continuing to read both fiction and non-fiction books. Hopefully, they have all tried out Raz-Kids and are enjoying reading on the computer at home.
Other:
Please remember to send comfortable earbuds into school with your child, so that we could start using I-Pads soon. If you need help with this, please send in a note to your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Thank you !!
